Anyone know if their is a hunting season for the Canadian Geese? There seems to be way too many of them and their droppings.

I put out a couple of small aligators that look extremly real. I have them sitting on the sea wall.

I have not had any Geese since. Give it a try.

I feed them!! : )

I have 3-4 families that come to my house and several of them will eat out of your hand! : )

I save all my old bread for them.

Sure....they leave a little crap in your yard....but no worse than your neighbor's dog does. The lawn sprinkler takes care of it and washes it into your grass.

They are really cool to have hang out with you for a while...and all seem to have a slightly different personallity....similar to your home pet.

Hey.....they're just raising and taking care of their families, the same as the rest of us.

Check them out sometimes....it'll be worth your effort. : )

The greens keeper at Chace Lake Country in Hoover Al. Shot several a while back . An almost did jail time. He did have to pay a heavy fine. They were pulling up the grass he had just planted on the greens. If he ran them off they just went to another green with the new grass . He took a shot gun to them after several days of running them around.

You should be able to find enough water that is away from houses that you can set up on to hunt. There is no state regulation saying how far away you must be from a house while waterfowl hunting. This means if you really wanted to you could anchor off of someone’s pier and go to town. But any hunter with any ethics about them is going to try and find the happy medium between having a successful hunt and not making everyone want to drown you because you woke them up or because you are shooting the animals they regularly feed. I have never set up in someone’s “front yard” and I never will. But this also means if I can get a good spot 250 yards away from a house then so be it. Now, for all the non-hunters out there, this is not a threat. I know some people will take it that way but I am not saying I am going to come kill every goose on the lake. There are many people that consider them pets because they feed them on a regular basis. But the trashcan I have outside our house in Moon Branch feeds a lot of coons and other animals that you and I would NEVER consider pets. Geese are wild animals. They are not domesticated and they are not pets. Otherwise they would have collars and would stay inside at night. The special season is set up because of the over-abundance of the birds in the state. That is the reason for the early season in September. Hopefully this will help the ones looking to hunt Martin without pi**ing off too many non-hunters.

The only deal is.....if someone fires on my property......I may fire back. : )

I don't allow hunting on my property....whether they are on the water or not.

If the bullet hits or travels across my property.....they can count on a shot being fired back. : )

I would suggest all hunting being done a little more in the wild. It's more safe all the way around. I'm sure most all hunter stay away from houses anyway...

Man, you get defencive at everybody. The goose hunter that made the post asured you he was a responsable hunter. I'm sure he or any other hunter with any since at all would not shot across your property.

Hey Oneshot.....

It's funny......I don't even have a gun.....except for a little BB pistol gun just for the heck of it.

I haven't shot it for about a year or so. So the other day while cleaning out a room, I came across it and took it outside for a second just to empty out the couple of BB's left in it......and even it wouldn't shoot. : (

Now that.......is a sad state of affairs. : )

Not only did the greens keeper at Chace Lake C.C. shoot the geese, the moron stuck them in the club's kitchen freezer, for later (personal) use. Coincedentally, the health inspector happened to drop by for the yearly tour of the kitchen. Needless to say, he was not pleased to find the recently deceased being stored next to the makings for the cheeseburgers and tuna melts .What did PT Barnum say? You can never go broke underestimating the intellegence of the American public?

I agree completely Strat. If someone was showering my house with steel shot I would be fit to be tied and fighting mad. We got the warden called on us last year ‘casue a guy said we kept “peppering” his house everytime we shot. The warden made the guy get in the boat and take him to the place where we were hunting. The warden then got out the handy-dandy range finder. We were 312 yards away from his house! He then told the guy if you want to proceed I will be more than happy to tell the police that you are filing false reports because there is no way a shotgun will put steel pellets that far! The guy shutup and went in his house in a hurry. That was funny to me. But back to the point of it all. If someone is stupid enough to shoot at your house and they were actually close enough to hit it I would have the law on their behinds as fast as I could. Too bad there are rotten apples out there that give decent, ethical hunters a bad name!

AlaDucker......You're right. Good safety rules need to be followed...that's all.

Most hunters are safe.....yet some do give the good ones a bad name.

Well Strat, my grandfather was a game warden for 34 years, and then served a term as Sheriff. I was brought up to respect the law and to follow it to a “T”. I also know how to be respectful for people around me. But I expect the same from them. But as I said before, I try to not hunt around others to keep the complaint factor down. It makes it much more enjoyable for me!
