The average American has not read The Constitution of the United States.

The average American cannot explain the difference between a Democracy and a Republic.

The average American cannot explain to you the tri cameral system of government in the United States.

The average American cannot tell you how our founding fathers handled the issue of slavery in the writing and passage of The Constitution.

The Average American cannot explain the purpose of the 10th Amendment.

The Average American cannot give you a definition for “sovereignty.”

The average American cannot explain the three clauses of the 1st Amendment.

The average American cannot identify the 13 original colonies.

The average American cannot name the two senators of his state and cannot identify who his representative is in Congress.

The average American cannot explain compound interest.

The average American cannot tell you what carbon dioxide is.

(…I will stop here)

It is MORALLY and ETHICALLY incorrect to exploit the ignorance and naivety of the average American for political or financial gain.  If you are in a position of power, you have an obligation to protect EVERY American citizen... even the dull and ignorant.

To quote The Desiderata:

“As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. - - Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. - - Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. - - If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.”                                                                                                                   - Max Ehrmann, 1927
