For those who doubted that Dale Earnhardt Jr. had it in him to win races, guess he proved that he can win last night! For Feb, who says Jr. is like Kyle Petty (never be as good as his daddy) remind me when the last time Kyle Petty WON a race or when he was ever in competition to win a championship!

I think you just made feb's point exactly.

Hi JMSD, Speaking of NASCAR Racing, I just passed through Bristol on my way down to the Lake. Congrats to Jr. and all his fans on the win. I think he and Kyle are probably both good men and great drivers. It would be dang hard for either to be as great as their Fathers. It was probably also rather ridiculous for me awhile back to try to compare the Fathers to the Sons. It is different times, and the Sons will either make or not make their own histories.

Thanks feb! I totally agree with you I do not in any way believe that Dale Jr. will be exactly what he father was. I just believe that he is a good driver and as long as he is around I will be a fan of his no matter what!

None will ever compare to Rex White, Dads or Sons. Those were the days when you pulled for the make of the car and the driver. Where can I find a 2- dr. Ford Tarus. In the old days they had to sell what they run. Heck all the cars look the same to me. Money has runied this exibition. it is not a sport.

Rex White was the 1960 Wiston Cup Champion!

Jim,
You are right about one thing..and that is that none will ever compare to Rex White because there really is not much to compare! Yes, he did win the 1960 Winston Cup Championship and then what...absolutely nothing. Considering that he was racing with competitors such as "The King" Richard Petty I don't see how you can say that he is the greatest next to Richard petty's accomplishments in this SPORT! Now, as far as back in the day when people pulled for the car manufacturer and not the driver, it still happens just not as often as it used to! My husband is one of those who pulls for the manufacturer. He is a Dale Jarrett fan and with all the talk of him possibly switching over to a Toyota, my husband is already off with his head for betraying Ford! You may not believe that NASCAR is a sport but I know that I sure as heck couldn't take on the physical and mental demands that it requires to ride 500 miles around a track! Call me crazy but I think you have to be in good shape to be successful at this sport!

a SPORT or not. The guy raced 500 miles with a very tore up hand. I'm sure holding on to the stirring wheel hurt like h---. Jim, would you do that?????????? His only goal was to win a sport that he enjoys.

What was he stirring? "Puddine?" :-)

It wasn't a spelling mistake, it was the wrong word. Which was only worth mentioning because the word you used was "stirring," which has gotten a lot of use lately. Most recently, by you! Sorry if you find the irony offensive... or was the whole thing just over your head?

P.S.-- Ignore me, I'm just "steering the pudding." :-)

I will take you up on that. Ignoring you is probably the best advice you have given me. I wish I had done that a long time ago. You are not worth my time and effort.

at some point and time in our lives, and I don't know anyone who really likes to be wrong. I am sure that none of you like being wrong either, which I feel sure you have been because after all we are all human and make mistakes sometimes! So why is it that you must ridicule someone who admits that they are wrong???? Your pleasures are others annoyances!

If that is directed at me then you are the wrong one. I was wrong, admitted to it and thanked the person who pointed it out to me. Does that sound like someone who hates to be wrong?? NOT!!!! It was not the first time I was wrong and I'm sure it won't be the last. After all, I am only human and never said I was perfect. Do you know someone that is perfect???? If so, I would love to meet him or her.

It really wasn't worth mentioning, except that the wrong word happened to be "stirring," a word which has reared its ugly head in here a lot lately; I just thought it was funny to see it popping up in the most unexpected place. If it keeps showing up where we least expect it, "stirring" could wind up being the lakemartin.com version of "the 9/11 guy."

Apparently it was a bigger deal than I thought it was. Maybe the tension of saying things you can't back up puts people on edge?

By the way, W, you can still be one of the first to register for the new board; what's taking so long?

This post started out giving Jr. congrats. Jr. will win more races. I will, however, have to defend Kyle Petty. I pull for Kyle every race. He is a class guy in my book. I admit it's kinda like pulling the the Braves in the sixties and seventies. He has endured much tragedy and has given much to the sport and to the memory of his son. He is very well respected and the top names in the sport pitch in to help his causes and the needy. Petty Enterprise is quite sucessful and they have revamped their racing teams with some top notch players in the sport. He admits that they are still a ways off from the kind of sucess they are striving for ....but expect a win or two this year from a Petty car. I miss the Alabama Gang too!
