I am sure you have read my response to you in the thread
"I Understand". I did attempt to honestly answer your challenge to me even if there were numerous typos in my response.

Now, I respected your question and gave you my answer. You have not replied in response. Do you agree or disagree? Where were you coming from in your question to me?

Tell us or me what the President could be doing better or if you think he is perfect then what is he doing that I am missing. I will admitt when I am wrong and convinced with logic and reasoning. I do not think I am and idiot and need to be blown off without a response.

Feb,
Your original post on 2/22 was about Walter Reed Army Medical Center. From what you said, I felt you were holding President Bush responsible for the operation of that facility. My response to your post was not a challenge but simply a question as to what you thought he should do. Your next two posts to my response did appear to be "blowing me off." In your third post to my response, you apologized and went in to detail on things you (and I) care deeply about. I have the highest regard for our military personnel and know full well that the freedoms we all enjoy today would not be possible without their actions and sacrifices.

However, no where in your post did you mention Walter Reed Army Medical Center and what you felt President Bush needed to do to correct the problems that apparently exist there. My personal thoughts are that President Bush is first and foremost Commander-in -Chief of our military, but he is not a hospital administrator. Just as there are generals responsible for battle plans and operations, there are generals responsible for medical facilities and care. If these officers do not properly carry out their duties and responsibilities, they should be dealt with along the chain-of-command. As you probably know, Major General George Weightman has been fired as head of Walter Reed by Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey. Today, Harvey was asked to step down by Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Was President Bush involved in any of these decisions? I don't know. My only hope is that these changes will ultimately eliminate the problems at Walter Reed.

Lastly, I'm not going to debate you or anyone else concerning President Bush. My opinion is he is a man of conviction and high moral character, and is doing his best to protect this country. Has he made mistakes? Certainly, we all do. Most likely, he'll make more. But he won't make the mistake of giving up though. He'll just keep on trying to do what he thinks is best for our country. Isn't that what all government officials should be doing?

I am gaining a lot of respect for our new SECDEF. Secretary Gates said he would take the appropriate action. Whether appropriate or not, I can not say but he did more than just fire a 2 Star who had only been in his position for 5 months.

The President said today he will form a Study. Studies are no more than a political kiss off. Meanwhile he will continue not to direct action to provide the resources needed. My uneducated opinion and belief is he will continue to rob from numerous National Programs to resource Iraq.

The problem runs much deeper than just Walter Reed in my way of understanding it. There is a lot of lip service of praising our brave soldiers and sailors, but then it all ends. The real shame is how we treat our service people. The VA is in shambles and has been for years. From Walter Reed where some may temporarily stay, they will be turned over to this under resourced element of Government. The current President has never - never - never taken any action to repair this broken program. We as Americans have never insisted upon it either. Shame on us, but hey lets shake a soldier's hand in an airport. Please do so, but lets not feel like this is where our obligaion ends

The only thing I would ask our President to do is take charge and not be led by others. General {Barb Wire) Kingston just passed away in the last few days. This man went where he wanted to go and told his staff to take him there. He did not ask his staff to tell him where to go. He was my boss when I was a commander of a unit in the 1st Infantry Division. He later developed the very secrative Delta Force. This was not a man I liked but a man I respected. President Bush seems to want to go where there is a friendly audience and a picture from rose colored glasses. He has shown a lot of attention to the military since there he can visit on a military facility and not receive any essence of controversy or questions of his leadership.

Why did it take the Washington Post to discover the grievous way our people are being treated? There is a much bigger horror story in the VA.

Yes, I understand the depth of respect and reverence many in the deep South feel for President Bush. I suspect much of it surpasses the princile of separation fo Church and State. You are right, he is our current leader.

I am concerned. I will, as I have said in the past, allow history to tell us the nature of his character and ability as the Leader of this Country. I expect a better perspective will be coming within our life times.

Again thank you for responding, I have gained a lot of respect for you since you did so. We do not have to agree, but it is best we attempt to learn from one another.

The Veterans Administration is a horror story, but so are the majority of government agencies. That is why I find it hard to understand why so many people want the government to take care of them. There are not many examples of government being good caretakers.

Have a good weekend. It's going to be beautiful here.

Thank You au67. Hope you have a nice weekend also.

Lets remember, we are speaking about the folks who are defending our Country and not just someone looking for a free meal ticket.

Feb, you know as well as I know that the piece by the Washington Compost was a hit job. That story could have been written during the Truman administration. The facility in question was an out patient facility, not the whole hospital. I can show you and do work in hospitals that I can guarantee you make WRAMC look like the Taj Mahal. And they're both private and eductational facilities. The care received at WRAMC is supposedly top rate. Overall, the facilities are old, but they are in a transition period, transferring patients down the street to a newer facility. Out patient facilities are always the last to be addressed during a transition because they don't treat in-patients. You didn't read this in the WaPo.

The WRAMC is not a VA hospital. It is a DoD hospital. Just like any hospital on an Army base. The SecDef is simply using this issue as a way to fend off Congress, do his job and put his own people in at the top.
What bothers me the most is that I can show you where Murtha and Kerry within the past 3 years brag about their presence at WRAMC, visiting troops, holding pressors etc, but not once did they notice the condition of the facilities? Now that tells me one of two things.....either the facilities aren't as bad as the WaPo claims or they knew as well and failed to act.

This issue stinks to high heaven. I'm so sick and tired of the games played with politics. I know politics is a blood sport, but it generally serves a greater purpose for the betterment of our country. I'm not so sure it does now. Give our young men and women putting their lives on the line everything they deserve in the way of top notch health care and post combat support. But using them as pawns in grand political gamemanship is an abomination and shame on the WaPo, shame on Congress who has known about this for 30 years, and shame on us for burying our heads in the sand and continuing to reelect POLITICIANS instead of STATESMEN.

Peace, out.

No Sir, I respectfully disagree. The stink and what caused the stink was simply revealed by the Washington. Post. Now, if you had used your same negative depiction of the Washington Times vs the Post, I would of been slapping you on your shoulders since there lies some poor and rather lopsided journalism.

I respect most of what you posted. Like with au67, I think we all have some valid points and concerns. I do want to cautions any and all of us not to believe the rhetoric of those in a defensive positon. We need to be told the truth and not have it hidden from us. Worse of all, are those who attempt to squesch the truth when it is revealed. This is what got the 2 Star and the Sec. of the Army in deep kudzu and fired.

While we are in this loving and hugging mood - Might I ask what some of you find as to some positive degree respectul journalism? This is a serious question.

I just hope someone will once again reveal the pathetic plight of all our veterans with the VA.

I now also understand why President Bush wanted to fix Social Securtiy. It seems like it is the only money maker to help fund the National Debt. Maybe it can be tweaked more to where it takes even more from those who pay into it.

Two questions for you Feb:

The WaPo reporters gathered this info over a four month period at the beginning of last year. And they sat on it until now. Why?

Even though the SecArm and the 2 star resigned, why do they get to keep their full pensions? Granted, 20 years + that they have served this nation are 20+ years ninety percent of the population can't measure up to,(including me) but why full bennies in light of their poor oversight of this facility and its associated bureaucracy?

And you're probably right about the WaPo, I was a little too harsh in my description....

and I think you may of answered some of your own questions. If the condition existed over 4 months ago, why did they relieve the 2 Star who had only been in the job for 5 months. Was he provide the resouces to correct the problem.

I would like to believe the 2 Star probably provided great service to his and our Country for better than 30 years before this event. You want to strip him of his service after he was sacrificed by those in real power

Please enjoy the following link. How much truth is there, I can not honesty say, but it does not bode well in my book.

You still did not help me with other reference material. You do seem to be well read. My Best.

The article like so many others was in the Washington Post, but the real source is the Associated Press.

I have read and heard unofficially of other instances where this has happened. Please note this was a tax payer sponsored event.

What is wrong with two sides to the story or debate. I thought this is what President Bush wanted with the need and call for Democracy.

Why does our President enjoy the photo ops and the speeches at predominately military bases? He has the control and the power.

What did he do to help Enterprise, Alabama today? Maybe a tad of hugging and shugging. The source he helped most was himself and his party for future votes at tax payer expense.

He will of soon worn out Air Force 1.

If Bush is a waste, as you suggest--what do you think of Obama Rama, Hillery the Hun, and Slick Willy were all doing in Selma today--vying for the welfare vote--now that's a shame..

I keep hoping for better. I did not respect President Clinton but from a different aspect than President Bush. With Clinton, what you saw was what you got. He at least (even with the lack of some moral character) was willing to confront his adversaries. President Bush (while a decent person of a disquised represenative of such) is unable or willing to do so. Maybe it is a mental intelligence lacking???

I do not understand the Southern patrionage and religious block support of President Bush. I am a religious man, but for the life of me I can not understand why church blocks have the right to do this wilhout paying taxes and loosing their tax deduction benefits. It is no more than brain washing their fold. It is rather sick to me.

Now in Clinton's defense (remember I am not a fan of his) he did take on a responsibily when he was first elected that no other politician would take on. He took a terrible economy and turned it around. He at least accomplished something.

Who is my Man or Woman??? I hold a deep respect for Mr. Powell. Even with the fact he was manipulated by the current admininstration. At least, he had the gumption to correct himself and step away.

He told Bush, You broke it and now you own it. (I think what he actually told President Bush prior to the decission to attack Irag "If you break it your own It' ). He gave great advice to his Commander In Chief or boss at the time and was snuffed. Then he had enough self respect to walk away. He tried his best to help guide our President.

I don't know Man, but we need to find someone with a better grasp of the almost impossible job of inspiring the Nation.

The most frightening thing to me about the coming election is the apparent control of the Democrat Party candidates by the ultra left. Watch all the candidates spend all of their time and energy kissing up to the welfare, minority, and illegal immigrant interests, and as usual, the labor unions. You mentioned the christian right block vote; what exactly do you call the above groups I listed. My question is: How do the minority churches keep their tax exempt status? They buy and sell votes in every election.

Slick Willie inherited a recovering economy, appeased and ignored our enemies until he could manage to get out of office, and was lucky enough to be President during a huge stock run up as a result of the arrival of the computer age. How much of this he actually influenced, I'm not sure.

It's a mess. We can only hope the cast of idiots currently running for President destroy each other and a real leader comes forward--NO not Al Gore--a real leader--Dem or Rep doesn't matter.

I lost all respect for him the moment he (clinton) put his hand on the bible and lied to the world. I lost any respect I may have had for Hillary when she stood by her man. This country is in trouble. We really do not have a good choice once again for the upcoming election. I am hoping some one with integrity will step up. ITS ALL ABOUT MONEY AND BIG
EGOs
