Got stopped yesterday in a new boat with no registration. Showed my bill of sale, license and safety equipment. Was back underway in less than two minutes. The officer was courteous and prompt. No complaints.

It is lawful for a law enforcement office to stop a vessel on Lake Martin for no reason at all and bother a law-abiding citizen. Having been given that power, it is gratifying to learn that at least in your case the officer was polite and efficient.

We should all consider how much freedom we trade for safety and security. In the case of the MP, we give up too much, in my opinion. They should not, by policy, aggravate innocent citizens by interfering with their lawful right to navigate.

Correct me if I am wrong but if he had no registration then he had no numbers on the side of his boat. That would be a reason to pull him over.

Correct - no numbers and no registration decal. Officer was doing his job.

I stand corrected, in that regard.

Don't feel bad, I got stopped and a ticket also. I got it for my misunderstanding some safety requirements. I had no cut off lanyard, This is because I was under the impression it was not required on older boats that did not come with one. No problem I see I was wrong and also 2 warning in the same stop one for no type IV throw able device and not having my paper registration sticker receipt from the courthouse on board the boat. But other than that. The were nice and answered some questions I had that I was not sure of.

By the way Nancy C, how did the weekend go living on the boat for 2 days...other than the obvious coupon from the MP?

Owww it was great. I am putting together a summary and
montage-video of the event, to be posted soon. But it was a blast.

You should always have a laptop in case you need to do a restaurant review.
