I am hoping for a girl's trip down - just want to drink, eat, shop, chat, etc. Can you recommend some places to visit? Antiques, charm, unique...any of the above could apply. And restaurant that would be different? We live on Blue Creek and mostly go to Niffer's, Oscar's, and The Cove.

Ideas are welcome.

a trip into Alex City is always fun for "the girls." Have a little quick bite at Carlisles soda fountain, then go across the street to Cloud Nine gift shop and right next door to Carlisles is Chabby but Chic ( a fun little antique shop).... On the same side of the street as Cloud Nine visit the Wine shop (for sipping and gossiping later :).... and Merle Norman for some great "Fall Colors." Then drive down to the antique mall by Sonic Drive In... High Cotton. It's lots of fun

Sinclairs is a great nice dinner out as is Cecils' in Alex City.

Lake Martin Mini Mall down in Kowlagia area is fun to visit too

and if you want a bit of a drive go to Cindy's home and garden shop near Wetumpka.... (she always has an ad in Lake Martin Living) Great Prices!

The little shop Glorias in Dadeville is cute.

Oh... and for a great steak go to Poplar Dawgs on Fri or Sat. night (no frills but great steaks!)

Now, if a "chick flick" is playing.... the theatre in Alex City is the cheapest of anywhere I know. I think you have a choice of 3pm or 7pm and that 's it!

and the Peebles in Alex city as well as Goody's and Hallmark can be fun to browse and pick up some odds and ends! I really like Peebles. Cute clothes and never crowded!

Oh Oh Oh... if you need to update your "casual or workout wear" a trip to the Russell outlet is a Must!

Oh, you can always rent a movie at Movie Gallery to go with the wine you bought at the wine shop and stay in and have fun!!!!

Well, you asked and I shared. Can you tell I like to shop, drink, eat, and chat with my girlfriends too!!
Have Fun!

This sounds just like us!!!! I am going to print and save. Thanks!

Is the Russell outlet easy to find?

Do you ever go over to Auburn?

Thanks, Rick. That added to my list choices.

We are only 4 1/2 years new to the lake. And I want to start investigating more. I am learning the lake as well...but wanted to find things to do in "town" on occassion.

I never have gone over to Auburn to shop. But it would be fun, I'm sure. I think there are some outlets near Auburn now.

Russell Outlet is very easy.. It sits right on 280 basically a block East of the Russell Medical Center (same side of road.) (sort of a strange triangular shaped building) you can't miss it.

Be sure not to miss the Antique Mall of Memories in AC on Hwy 280 right across from the Ford dealer. It's onthe way out of town towards B'ham. It's the best spot for antiques in AC! I have no interest in this place other than they have a BUNCH of my $$$$!

Oh Yeah, I forgot that one!! That's a good one too:) I decorated an entire screen porch (with fish/lake theme) from there :)

Can you tell what my hobby is???? Shopping :)!!

Auburn is only 30 minites away with a new shopping area called Tiger town, across from Home Depot. All kinds of stores.

Just curious... are they the typical " chain" retail stores. Or more quaint and different type stores??

Also, on the way down 280E headed towards Auburn is an Antique Mall called Oldies But Goodies. I haven't been there but my full time neighbor who enjoys "antiquing" tells me it's a good one.

Maybe, JIM would like to invite you and your friends to his "cabin" on the lake for cocktails before you head out to town. I am not a big antique person but wifey and I stopped at the Oldies place on 280 and purchased a unique antique dresser and would suggest you include a visit there on your trip to Auburn.

for Alex city I like Cecil's - in an old house. consistent menu, not pricey. Try the blackened catfish - on the "Alabama food-before-you-die" official state list.

You might try Yellowhammer - it's real pricey and I have not heard any reports. they have the credentials.

If it's warm enough I like the bar on the lakeside at Sinclairs.

Food is really good and consistent now too. Nice grouper sandwich at lunch. Dinner is really nice.
