This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address occur on the same day, Feb. 2, 2011. It is an ironic juxtaposition of events: One involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to an insignificant creature of little intelligence for prognostication.
While the other involves a groundhog.

Waterwatcher, are you familiar with the 'Jokes' forum? That would probably be a better place for this. I'm sure some of us think the State of the Union speech is a worthy thing for all Presidents (either party) to do. Or am I just grouchy tonight?

Hey WW, YOUR President selected that date since it is the anniversary of President Bill Clinton introducing the first balanced budget in 30 years.
My sources also tell me that he selected Feb 2 to give those with small minds reason to post senseless info that you probably cut and pasted from Palin's Twitter.

Sorry you find it offensive ... I had a good laugh, but then again, there is little I have agreed with that dope, and I am sure we will hear more BS in the SOU this year. I wonder how much he is going to blame others rather than take reposibility for his failed policies.
The again ... by his recent appointments and what he is saying ... he may be moving more right than even I am. If fact, so are wondering if he is going to switch parties and try to run for the republican nomination in 2012 .... he certainly apprears to have abandoned his liberal base. That can only be good for the country ... corporate tax rate cut to 20%, revap the tax code that sounds like the fair tax ... wow ... he keeps that up, he has my vote in 2012.
He may even sign the repeal of Obamacare if Reid would allow it to come to the floor in the senate.

That is because liberals like you have a tiny little brain .... that is the joke.
But as i said ... with obama's wake up call and shift to the right .... he is embracing tax cuts, smaller government, more to the private sector, etc .... it must kill you that your mesiah is now on board with all the things you hated.
BTW ... how did your predictions turn out? Are you man enough to admit you fell flat on your face and Obama's policies failed. He is obviously admitting that now. But finally a move to the right and leadership back in the house ... we are getting the country moving in the "right" direction again. So the republicans again saved a democrats back side and probably will help him be reelected, like they did Clinton. But it is all good for the country.
I guess every now and then it is worth letting the liberal socialist dems get in power to fall on their face and remind the american people what a horrible failure their policies are.
Now be a man and admit you were wrong. Or go back in your cave and pray your liberal dream comes true some day. I know I asked you this before, but your never answered, but your never answer any direct questions ... just like jellyfish ... if the country was split in two and conservatives on one side with their low taxes, smaller government, more private sector control, etc .... and on the other was liberals, with redistribution of wealth, higher taxes, bigger government, more regulation, etc ..... which one over a 20 year span of time would be more successful? Simple question. Pick!!!
I know you thought the economy was great and had so much business ... but we all know you lie.

Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address don't occur on the same day in 2011. This joke (which should have been on the joke page) was written in 2005 when G.W.Bush did give the speech on Groundhog day and the reference was to GWB. Someone changed the year to see how many would run with the story and prove that they never check facts (or don't know how to read a calendar).

You are VERY sad .... I feel sorry for you. I knew you would be a typical liberal and never answer direct questions or admit you were wrong and the failure of liberal socialist policies. I would believe the groundhog over Obama's lies any day.
Obama is talking more like a republican everyday. You have to wonder what he really believe in ... I have no respect for someone that changes like the wind to save his own backside. Don't get me wrong ... his "seeing the light" is good for the country and the unempolyed .... but it took an old fashion butt kicking this past november to make him change .... otherwise he would have continue to lead the country to destruction.
Hopefully come 2012 the people remember his failed policies and the republican saved the day as they did for Clinton.
Also, remember it was the dems that took over congress in 2006 that stated to lead us down the economic road of failure. That is why it is more important for the republicans to control congress than the whitehouse.

Liberals socialist programs keep people down and actually grow the poor ... look at history. the more "social" programs, the more handout, have no effect on helping the proverty improve ... only keep them there and keep voting for the hand that is feeding them.
While growth and free enterprise creates jobs and opportunities for all.
I believe in a helping hand ... NEVER a handout !!!!!
