Hey Cat, Putting this question here cause I figured out others might find it useful. 95 or so pontoon boat, 70hp Evinrude, built in fuel tank. I installed an Attwood 10 micron water separator filter and replaced the fuel line. The old line wasn't bad but I figured with all the horror stories we've been hearing about ethanol, it would be cheap insurance. Well, the question is, the bulb doesn't pump up firm like the old one. Once I got the filter filled with fuel, I can tell I'm pumping, but it never gets firm (I can hear the comments coming on that already) like the old one did. Boat runs fine, it's getting gas just fine. Not really worried about anything. Just wondering if maybe I should cut out the new bulb and put the old one back? While I have your attention. What is your opinion on these water separator filters and how often should I replace it. The boat was mostly full of fuel all winter and treated with Stabil. But I figured I would replace it pretty soon after the first tank full because this boat has never had a filter to my knowledge. And I know it was without a fuel cap for part of it's life so there's really no telling what kind of crap is in there. However, I've had it 5 years and never had a problem from it. Thanks, <>< TC

Is this a modification done by you? Reason for asking is I need to know how you plumbed the filter. The proper way is to route the fuel from the tank, to the filter, then to the primer bulb and to the engine. In other words, you need to be "pulling" fuel through the filter and not "pumping" fuel through the filter. Also, there are -> and -< marks on the filter housing. Make sure you have it plumbed proper. I would replace it every year, depending on use. Hope this helps! Steve

Yep, that's how I did it. And yes, I did it myself.

It being plumbed correctly, and it works, I would not worry about it sir.

Thanks. As has been stated by many, yet it's never an understatement. You ARE da MAN! I think I'll keep the old bulb just in case. Peace <>< TC

another control group boat is needed to make sure your installation method is sound. I'm sure you'll be very happy to learn  I'll allow you to install the system on my pontoon....just let me know when you want to come on down.

You know how dangerous things become when pilots have tools. That's why I sought the advice of the Master. I will tell ya this. If you buy the filter kit at Wal Mart, it has metric fittings. Good luck finding those. I bought the one I used at Bass Pro and it had standard fittings. I was able to find those, but not at Bass Pro. I got a second one at Wal Mart because it was cheaper and would have used it if I could have found fittings. I'll just take that one back. You try it. Cat is right in your back door if you need him. I can't afford the fuel to have him come to Logan Martin. But I'm scouting for a Cathouse North location. Or should I say, I'm looking for him a sand box? Peace, <>< TC
