I am getting several E Mails from friends which discuss new legislation for guns. These comments are very serious if true. How serious should we consider this?

Be very afraid if you believe in the second amendment. If, on the other hand, you believe in an omnipotent centrist government, just sit back - your wish is coming true.

but the Gun Haters will keep trying.
This one came out of a Chicago Southside shooting of the son of prominent parents associated with the CPD and CFD in 2007, thus sad, controversial, and media bait, and good for a new law to ban something.
As I read it, HR45:
- Requires a LICENSE for ALL HANDGUN and CLIP-FED Long-guns, not only on the gun, but on the OWNER.
- Requires a photo ID with Prints
- Requires you to pass a Written(??) Safety Test??
(for a gun? Are you kidding me?)
- Requires renewal every 5 years
- Requires permission(register again) to sell your S&W .38 to your neighbor.
- Requires you to register (again) the loss/theft of a weapon.
- Requires a REGISTERED GUN OWNER to report a Change of Address w/in 60 days of moving.
- Plenty of rhetoric to allow Federal, not State control of the results.

This legislation, if enacted, creates a database for almost every gun in the US, minus those which are in the hands of those who use them unlawfully. This database would allow a subsequent law to confiscate our means of self-protection. They could knock on your door and demand your gun, or be locked up.

Lots of links on the HR45. Google it and decide for yourself.

I wonder if gun control could have prevented the death of the Pennsylvania lady ? The whole thing is beyond belief. I am referring to the 11 year boy that took his shotgun and blew this person away. I am by no means for gun control. I can bet you that this would have never happened if this 11 year old could not have got his hands on a shotgun. It is sad for everyone. Who is responsible ? The father ? The eleven year old ?

I also am shocked that this eleven year old has his picture shown all the internet. I thought that was illegal ? He is a minor. What makes a child do something like this at 11 years old ? Anyone here that has young children with access to guns then beware.

If the child did not have access to a gun, he could not have killed her ....... with a gun. Guns are nothing more than tools, if he wanted to kill her, he would have. In this case she was sleeping, so a skillet, hammer or knife would have been just as effective. The root cause here appears to be the same "nothing in the world except for me" mentality that has taken over our country.

I doubt he would have used a skillet, hammer or knife. The gun was there for him and it was the quick way. What was a 11 year old doing with a shotgun to begin with? I would think the Father is as guilty as the child. I was almost killed many years ago by a 12 year old while hunting. Young children have no business owning a weapon. We could argue about this all day and nobody will ever change my mind on this subject. I talk from experience. A death did occur and it was by a 12 year old here in Alabama. It was an accident on what I am referring to, not murder. The gun should never have been in the home to begin with. The person would never have lost her life if that gun had been locked up. It was a sad sad day in my life. That was many many years ago and time has healed some of the pain but I still think of it often.

The problem I and most law abiding gun owners have with any kind of gun control is that it will only penalize the law abiding citizens. Most criminals aquire their guns illegally so it will not prevent them from having guns. It would only make it more difficult for the good folks to aquire weapons to protect themselves.
