The situation is not grave, so to speak and Mr. Obama's win though it makes little sense and he's not on a bill it does show that America is a place for ideals, dreams, and ones right to aim for highest public office in the land. Now. We MUST hold Mr. Obama accountable for every action and in this new century governed by liberals, may our resolve become resolute to hold president elect Obama to a higher standard as he is in fact shall become our commander in chief as terror reigns the world we must continue to confront it, battle it, win, and set no sights on anything less. Fore to do so would be to appease foreign dictators, terrrorists, and others that would seek the weak and distroy our union. As I suggest, the situation is not grave, but surely for a moment a few f our founding fathers might be spinning in their grave. Lord knew we weir lucky when we had presidents to look up. Heaven knows we need their watch now. Good night and may god bless Obama and America. Peace through Victory.

I'm trying to understand why you think we must hold Obama to a HIGHER standard than anyone else we would elect? I expect all of my Presidents to be held accountable for their actions because they hold the trust of the American people.
The truth is that a campaign was run, two fine men ran and one was elected. I don't think the Founding Fathers would be spinning in their graves about that. I think they would be proud of us.
The truth is that Obama may be a great President, the worst we've ever had or somewhere in between, but the beauty of the system is that he will have 4 years to prove himself. No matter who was elected, there are huge challenges ahead.

That is just patently ridiculous; however, I must ask you -- would it be a problem for you to see a Muslim represented? After all, they are part of our country.
I hope that Obama makes good on his promise to be inclusive to ALL people in his choice of appointees. After all, the US is a melting pot of cultures.

Actually, the Muslims do not bother me half as much as the "Democratic Party" does. Do you have any idea which party is responsible for the current economic meltdown? I'll give you a hint, "C" pushed for the the lending institutions to relax lending criteria so more people could purchase a home ( the American Dream). One final question, Which fanactics were responsible for 9/11?

Oh please, lets not go there again about the fiscal crisis. Didn't we just have that discussion here the other day? I would say that the Republicans played as much of a part in the fiscal crisis as the Democrats -- more than enough blame to go around.
And yes, radical muslims were behind 9/11. I just don't happen to think that Muslims are all radical or all terrorists. What about Timothy McVeigh? He wasn't a Muslim and he killed innocent Americans too. Should we not have any white males in office either?

Hit the enter button again. Do you really think it is appropriate to compare an individual whacko with a religion that promotes the extermination of anyone non-Musllim? Seems a little bit of a stretch to me. I realize there are many good, peaceful Muslims however, their goals and ambitions are right there in the Koran (sp?) for all to see.

What about Bill Ayers? McVeigh and Ayers both were white and domestic terrorists. McVeigh was convicted of and executed. Ayers was set free due to a technicality.

I don't think Obama should be held to a higher standard than other Presidents. I do believe that he himself has created incredibly unrealistic expectations for what he can or will accomplish as President. This is of his own making and he is the one that will have to live with the consequences.
I think a segment of his vote came from white voters who really expected that with his election we will finally get past the issue of race......they will be wildly disappointed. We will hear about nothing but race and it has already started. Tavis Smiley (not sure about the spelling) has already been quoted as saying Obama's election is only a small step. Affirmative action, reparations, etc. will be high on his agenda. This doesn't exactly sound post-racial and there will be much more to come.
Obama himself said that he will change the world, sea levels will stop rising, the globe will stop warming, etc. He now has to live up to those words. The fact is the world is still a very dangerous place and this will be apparent soon enough. His voters are going to be very disappointed.
Obama's prescriptions for the current economic problems are in my view the exact wrong way to go. When he raises taxes on all Americans that pay federal taxes he will tell us that the problems are much worse than even he expected. He will blame Bush, the media will go along and we will all pay the price.
So I completely agree that he should not be held to any higher standard than he has set for himself in his campaign promises. He can not and will not be able to meet his own standard. But all his promises did get him elected......

But truly MM -- isn't that true of everyone we elect? I'm not sure I read where BO promised quite everything you have stated, but you are right -- the spin is there. And if he doesn't make good on the promises, he'll probably only have one term. I would not want to be in his position. But I'm going to believe that he can at least do some of it.
I expected a lot of discussion about race, since he is the first African American President. I hope that people realize that affirmative action has not worked in the past, and will not work in the future. I think affirmative action has to come from within and making sure that the best qualified applicant gets the job no matter what race or religion or background. I was very pleased to be able to mentor 3 young African Americans in the last 10 years of my career. One was, surprisingly enough, from Montgomery. But the thing that I about all three of them is that they were wonderfully motivated. One had his Masters when he came to me, and I was able to help him get on a career path in which he has been very, very successful. Another is a young Navy man, who I was able to encourage to go back to school -- he was the first of his family to graduate from college. The other was a woman who was very sharp, but had never had the courage to compete for promotion. If you set up artifical quotas, the people that benefit never get the respect of their peers because they are resented by others. Heavens, I hope that lesson has been learned.

In my opinion, there are a lot of ways to interpret what is in the Koran, just as with the Bible.
And yes, I do think it is a fair comparison -- there are as many evil white people with a personal agenda as their are Muslims. What about all the Skinheads, Aryian Nation and those other groups that don't believe that the US government is a legitmate country. They are out there. That is not to say that I would think it okay if Muslims were a disperportionate number appointed to confirmable positions. I would hope their representation would be commeasurate with the percentage of Muslims in the population. I think a diverse workforce is good.

I really don't think you can compare the entire Nation Of Islam with the skinheads or anyone else. Who has been the instigator of almost every major conflict for the past several decades? I don't recall the skinheads ranking anywhere near the top 10. Take a look at what's happening in Europe, particularly France and England where the Muslims are rapidly expanding their base. Very scary, in my humble opinion.

For me, a terrorist is a terrorist. Muslims are the largest religion in the world. And how many of them are terrorists? I believe I read somewhere that more people convert to Islam than any other religion. I'm not sure what you mean by "expanding their base". Do you mean moving out of the Middle East?
I see what is happening, but I'm not prepared to condemn people for their religion. One of the reasons that they hate us is because of our support for Israel. If it were not for a large number of Jewish people living in the US, do you think we would continue to support Israel. For reasons I can't go into here, I don't think we would. Did you know that every year Israel tries to get us to give them more than the $2.8B we already give them for the Camp David accords? And when it started out, they had to spend that money on US products, but over a period of time, they have whittled that away and now they can spend it on their own product because of their "unique requirements".
