Subject:   Why Micro Chip Your Dog

ORLANDO -- A Maltese dog named Max is back home in Florida after he was found in Chicago -- 1,000 miles from where he disappeared.

Max is to be reunited with his owner Richard Gonzalez on Sunday.

On Saturday, Joanne Couture, who runs Li'l Lap Dog Rescue, picked up Max from Delta's cargo office at Orlando International Airport. She took him home for the night.

Max disappeared from the west Florida city of Brandon almost six months ago. An animal-control shelter in Chicago had picked up Max, and the microchip implanted in the pooch's body linked him to Gonzalez.

I am involved with a rescue group, and this is so true. If someone steals your microchipped pooch, and it lands with a responsible person that takes it for a checkup, the vet will normally find the chip. It isn't a complete cure, but the chip or even tatoo in the ear can help a dog be recovered.

If you don't mind my asking, what rescue group are you inolved with? I would love to volunteer my time to a rescue group or other animal group. For years I was inolved with Siamese Rescue up in VA.

I plan on having both of my dogs microchipped since we don't have a fence or even an electronic fence here.

we agree on. Pets are helpless. They depend on humans to care for them. Of course they do have some survival instincts, as mine survive with a couch and would never make it 1/2 a day in the open. I have 5 homeless shelter rescues and they live better the Mr Nauti and I do.
Since we moved to Alabama, I have taken 6 cats and 9 dogs to the shelter, because their owners either abandoned them, or didn't fence them. If theses animals I rescued had microchips, I think the owners should be fined big time for not fencing them so they could not wander off and be injured or killed.
AU....If I had enough self control to not take every abandoned, mistreated or otherwise unadoptable critter home, I'd volunteer with you. But, I cannot be trusted and I'd have to apply for a kennel license and tax credits. Ask Mr Nauti...he'll tell you. He is the voice of reason in the Nauti household.

If owners would get their dogs and cats a rabies shot and attach the rabies tag to the collar you could call the vet for the name and address of the owner. We found a St Bernard yesterday in the yard and checked for a tag. Found it and called the vet who identified the owner by the tag number.

If you put a tag of your own on the collar, I suggest you just show your last name and tel number. DO not show the dog or cat's name as it makes it too easy for someone to keep and control the animal, if that is their intent, if they know the aniimals name.

It is neat the our love of animals can bring Socialists, Conservatives, Far Right. Liberals, the Left together for the betterment of animals. There is hope for this great country.

DH is the voice of reason here too. He's got a soft heart for animals, but reminds me about our petfood and vet bills.
I can get a lot more fired up about aniimal abandonment and animal abuse than I can about politics. People who love animals are almost always good people regardless of their political point of view.

What a great story, We have a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Eve and it would kill my kids to lose her, not to mention my Mom who lives with us. She seems attached to home but I think I will get her chipped just to be sure. Thanks GF.....now my 14 year old, if somebody wants her..... I AM JUST KIDDING! She is a great kid and very holy......just a joke, I swear.... :-)

I failed fostering the first time I tried it. My work is not conducive to fostering since I'm away from home so much. But over our lifetime we have adopted many animals, and like you, we have had a good many at any given time.

...what will be left in the pot after tomorrow - all of us going about our daily lives the best we can. Just trying to get along. The U.S. will survive, hopefully it will be a better place in the future regardless of the election results either way.

The beauty of a democracy is that we have differing views, but we can come together as one. As I'm sure some of you thing I'm crazy for my views, and ditto that in reverse, lol - I imagine we could all sit down at one table and have a discussion and remain friendly.

In the end, we are all in this together. Hope to meet some of you folks one of these days.

An incredible thing has happened! Rescue K911 has been nominated for ABC's Extreme Home Makeover. If you are not familiar with this Rescue K911, let me tell you a little of what I know. Larry and Lorraine Weaver moved here several years ago from Florida. Their dream was to buy land and fix up an old farmhouse in Camp Hill, Alabama. They began to bring home homeless dogs that they would find on the road. Their hearts are so big that they could not turn down even one. They began to get so many dogs that their dreams of the farmhouse were slowly diminishing. They eventually got a mobile home and the farmhouse turned into a big doghouse!

After so many dogs came to live with them, Rescue K911 was born. Fencing had to be built, dogs had to be fed and watered, and medical care had to be provided. With both Larry and Loraine working full-time to try and and make ends meet, days were long, and volunteers and donations were few.

More and more dogs began to come, with Rescue K911, now housing almost 150 dogs. Fundraisers have helped and more people are now on the donation list. The volunteer count is better than it was in the beginning. The dog's now have better housing and even though the adoptions are low, it is certainly better than it was in the beginning.

But what about that original dream? I have never known Loraine or Larry Weaver to ask for anything, unless it was for the dogs. They have done without for as long as I have known them. The dog's needs have always come first, with nothing left for Larry and Loraine. I do not know anyone in this whole world who deserves this home makeover more than Larry and Loraine Weaver. I am asking that you email Extreme Home Makeover with a support for Rescue K911. The address is castingalabama@gmail.com . Please keep them in your prayers and forward this email to everyone on your email list that you know who have big hearts for homeless, neglected, or abused animals.

I'll email ABC and also look at the K911 link. People that help animals deserve all the support they can get. What a great cause.
