Alabama Power has requested approval from FERC to hold the winter water level at 483' due to the continuing drought in the Tallapoosa River Basin.  This request has nothing to do with Relicensing, but will help assure that the lake is able to refill next spring and is similar to other drought related actions taken over the past few years.  We certainly support APCo in this effort.  Approval could take 30 days.

Does the public need to comment to FERC about this?

The HOBOs certainly will file a comment supporting the Alabama Power application.  Everyone is encouraged to support proposed actions that will improve conditions on Lake Martin.  If anyone would like to comment, go to www.ferc.gov, and register to file a general comment.  Martin Dam's project number is P-349-000, which must be used in most cases.  We'll know more about the situation early next week.

The application request FERC's approval to hold Lake Martin at 483' MD until the normal spring fill rule curve intersects the 483' level at which time the lake will continue to fill as normal.
