Hopefully most lake folks have heard by now. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will conduct a Public Hearing tomorrow, Wednesday, July 17, at the Betty Carol Graham Center at CACC Junior College in Alexander City, AL. The meeting will be conducted by FERC personnel from 6:30 PM till 9:30 PM.
If you want the lake to have a chance of having higher water levels in the winter and a six week extension of the summer pool levels, it is imperative that you attend this meeting and support the efforts of Alabama Power to achieve this goal. FERC initially turned down the request of APCo, but now is the opportunity for lake stakeholders to show their support. Surely you can give one evening to improve your lake. We need a standing room only crowd to show both our support for the request and our unity as a lake community. You can speak if you desire, or just support those who do, but please attend. There will be a sign-in desk at the entrance--be sure to sign-in and let them know if you want to speak.

Great! We've heard from people as far away as North Carolina driving in. Really hope for the locals to be present too.

Just a question, and no disrespect intended, but didn't the HOBO organization join with the Down River Landowners in opposing the APCo's proposal of 483' low pool and extended full pool period? Do you think that opposition may have let to FERC's decision of no change?

That is incorrect, George. HOBOs had asked for a five foot increase at winter pool and have always supported having six week shoulders during spring and fall full pool. We didn't get what we wanted but a three foot increase is better than none, as FERC is recommending.

Thanks for clearing that up. I can't remember where I heard/read that HOBO and Down River were both opposing APCo's proposal.

A good turn out., approx 600 in attendance. 30 people spoke, all but 3 were in favor of the Alabama Power Company application. 483 winter pool and later draw down in the fall.
