Gonna throw this one out there. Was thinking about buying a place after the first of the year, been bartering for a while. Bottom line there is no emergency facilities for elder folk`s ( or anyone else) with problems, I have had 3 heart surgeries , the last one being in Aug, 04. And if I had been at the Lake I would not be typing this post. I no that death is enivatable, but I think I will take my chances close to good medical care.

East Alabama Med Ctr, in Opelika,is your closest, best bet for Cardiac Svcs - Good cardiologists and they offer open heart surgery. Closest place on lake to Opelika would be the Blue Creek area. Don't know if Russell Hosp (Alex City) offers open heart, but I know that they have full time cardiologists and some that come up from Opelika.

If you gotta go -- at least be at a place you love.

My father had a heart attack working in the yard of his lake cabin at the age of 50. He drove himself to the hospital in Dadeville ... they started care and then transferred him to East Alabama in Opelika. He had bypass surgery .. aneurism surgery (all at EAMC) and lived another 14 years before another massive heart attack finally ended his life. We were extremely happy with the way EAMC handled my dad's case .. and as the previous poster said ... my dad would have rather spent his last 14 years at the lake ... than to have had 30 more years somewhere else. I still miss him every day.

That is so sweet. Do you still have your mother? Mine are both gone now and as an only, it is sad not to share memories with a sibling. That is why I wanted more than one child. It took 8 years to get #2 here, but by golly, even if we are old, he makes our life richer.
