Cat,
We've not met but I see you post in this forum and we need a dependable boat guy.  We went out for an early evening cruise in the toon last night and ended up running aground in the head of Manoy (should have known better but we weren't as far over to one side as we should have been).  Its an older toon with a 60 hpr Johnson and it seems to have sucked up some mud.  We paddled over to a neighbors dock and raised up the motor. We blew out the intake with a water hose and let it sit for a while to cool off (smoked a little). It wouldn't start last night. Has power, prop turns freely out of gear. Almost sounds like Bendix isn't engaging the starter.  Any thoughts and do you make house calls (or should I say dock calls)?  Thanks for any input!!!

Just jump off Lifer's pier (note that I did not say dock) and get over there...

Be a nice long swim from my pier to the mouth of Manoy, all downstream though and the creek is running pretty good with the recent rains.  But I am puzzled as to how they ran aground there unless it was in the one shallow spot clearly marked with hazard buoys.  One should NEVER go between those markers and the shoreline, even at full pool.  But I guess they learned that already.

It would be nice if there were some markers up there but we sure didn't see any. I knew it was shallow in the middle all the way up there but we thought we were far enough over and being at full pool but obviously not :-) Will know from now on. Just glad someone else was home on a Monday evening to give us a lift.

We were up where the creek comes into the lake and there are a couple of islands in the center that are covered at full pool. You have to stay off to the right or left to miss them.

I've been in Manoy for 13 years and can't place where you are talking about.  The only shallow spots I know are right where you describe, but well marked.  That is as of last time I was out, but it has been a couple of weeks.  It is  possible the markers have gotten away.  Weather permitting I will go out this evening and check.  My first month of living here full time I spun a prop in Blue Creek.  Thank God I made it back inot the mouth of Manoy and called a neighbor for rescue.

But the location listed was the head.  I guess if you wanted to be at the mouth instead of just at the head that you could grab the creek by it's ears and turn it a little...  Didn't figure that they were too far from you.

Too funny!! All I know is that Steve is the only guy I'll call for our boats from now on.  Nice nice guy and we are up and running again and he didn't try to rip us off. We really appreciate it:-)

We have several guys that get good reviews on the forum for boat repair on Lake Martin, HPHQ is in Dadeville and of course CAT near Blue Creek and I would not hesitate to send business to either one (we are on Sandy Creek so both are close).  I had CAT and crew replace a starter and do some other maintenance on our boat a couple of years back and it was ready before the next weekend.  One of the forum members was "working" the store at that time, so I met him - had met CAT and family on a couple of previous occasions.  All have been very down-to-Earth folks.

I am glad you put working in quotes because what that guy did/does barely qualifies as work.

"he didn't try to rip us off."

With his talent and experience he doesn't have to try, it just comes naturally without effort.  :<)

Just kidding of course, he is a straight up guy and a very good friend  He tries harder because he has too.  There is no big corporate money behind him, just a bunch of hard working guys.  That and he married WAY up.
