Does anyone use, or try to use, Verizon wireless broadband coverage at the lake? Does it work well? Please let me know, yea or nay. Thanks.

It will work fine as long as you have the kill switch on!!

I get good coverage at the Dixie Sailing Club, across from the dam. What specific part of the lake are you interested in? If I'm in the area anytime soon, I'll be glad to check it.

Our place is in the Shady Bay area between Mad Wind and Bay Pine, in Jacksons Gap. My Verizon modem doesn't get a "strong" visible signal, but connects and works fine. I always do an "Options/Activation" any time I crank it up in a new area to update the tower information. Just like I do a *228, opt 2 for my phone. No issues.

Alex City / River North area works great -- only 2 bars but connect to Rev A every time.

I don't think Verizon has hooked up into the full Altel towers here yet. When they do, there should be a lot of improvement. For awhile I wondered if our area was one they would have to sell per the merger agreement, but the store folks in Alex City say they are merging systems and maybe some local stores will relocate or close. Guess we'll wait and see.

A cell repeater works great,
Boosts the cell signal to 5 bars

We are at 34 and Wildwood Road. We have verizon internet. It is not quite as fast as cable high speed, but it works fine. Rarely drops packets. Big files may take a little time. According to verizon's coverage map, our place is located about 1/2 mile outside the EVDO rate. I'm hoping they will do an adjustment (boost) on the tower range so we can get the faster speed. Our phones work ok.

What do you do when you perform the Options/Activation update? I regularly update the cell phones, but haven't ever done an update on the wifi - other than firmware. Thanks!

From your VZ Access Manager interface, go to options and click "activation" in the menu. This is before you connect. It will go through an unlock and update procedure ending with a message that "activation was successful" or something like that. Click ok, then connect as usual. Again it's like *228, Opt 2 on your cell phone and just updates your where abouts on the network. Easy Peasy.
