Can small partilcles of food ( crumps) and other small particulate matter clog a bildge pump?

Bilge pumps have a screen that keeps larger items out but I would think it could handle small stuff......

ack, sorry for the miss post. It depends. Is the bilge old? If its old enough things like sand, oil, and gas might destory the impellar over time and it will not work anymore.
