Yes, Lake Martin was even mentioned on the NBC Nightly News tonight. I actually think they (NBC) showed some better pictures and had a better report althought more abbreviated than was on the Weather Channel.

This is not the kind of news or exposure any of us desire to have at the National level.

Never did understand what Willard was saying; they cut him off. First time I've watched the Weather Channel in a long time--more commercials packed into less time than I've ever seen.

You are so right Feb! things are bad now but a few more months of this and 25-30% price drops will happen. Many properties have just been pulled off the market. This could be our Katrina folks and I am not just talking about our home values (although taht is significant). There is a whole economy of the region at stake. At this point I think we can all agree that while managment of the lake levels can have short term impacts, its the rain that is killing us all.

I am starting to believe in Global Warming :) And now they forecast a warm and dry winter with worsening drought conditions! Lets hope they miss that forecast like they did the past two years with their "Historic" Hurricane forecasts...

Bob:

I wanted to point out that the current drought is not caused by global warming. These weather patterns are a result of currents in the ocean (known as El Nino and La Nina). The worst drought in the last 150 years was in the 1920's long before the alleged increase in CO2 emissions due to industrial activities. The warmest period in the last 150 years was in the 1940s. While there may be a gradual warming trend it started over 150 years ago and is primarily from natural causes.

I'm not a left winger or a tree hugger. I'm just curious as to why it is so important to so many people to point out that the drought has no association with so-called "global warming" otherwise known as climate change. Yes, of course there have been droughts in the past before we poured so much junk into the atmosphere. I am seriously asking though, what advantage is there to pointing out that we have no responsibility in the climate conditions? And from where does your absolute certainty come given that most scientist do in fact think we are seriously affecting our climate. Not being hostile. I'm truly curious. Why continue to point this out? What is the advantage? Does this help us in any way?

I think the reason that people point out that climate change is not the cause of this drought or that heat wave is because proponents of anthropogenic causes of global warming use each of these events as "proof" and "a reason for alarm", etc. etc. When you say most scientists believe that we are seriously impacting the climate that only proves my point that we need to be vigilant and point out the facts. Do you realize that more than 50% of climatologists that are members of the American Meteorilogocal Society do not believe that man is having a significant impact on global climates? Did you know that of the 2,500 "scientists" that signed the IPCC report on climate change that the vast majority aren't in fact experts on the climate and the majority aren't even scientists? There are a large number of prominent climatoligists, geologists, geophsicists (of which I am one) and other scientists that are skeptical of the impact of man on climate change. But you never hear about this because it doesnt fit the template of the mass media. I don't blame you or any other person not schooled in this area that has to rely on the media.

So my suggestion is that when you indicate you are reconsidering the whole global warming issue because of a drought in the southeast I want to be add a different perspective. Let me suggest a book that you might want to read. It is called "Cool It" by Bjorn Lomborg. He by the way does believe man is having an impact on the climate but not to the degree of others and he more rightly points out the folly in the current debate. Its a short book. Read it and send me a note and let me know what you think. Cheers!

Well said Martini. At least Great Britian is requiring an opposing veiwpoint to be distributed to schools along with OwlGores propaganda film. I have always said if you are taking 'global' anything you MUST also then study it in the perspective of 'geologic time'. Which, as you know better than I, is in eons. We only have ACCURATE weather records for the past 100 or so years. Far to short a time frame to predict anything 'global' in my mind.

I also like the story of the 'ancient glacier' (somewhere in northern europe but I forget where) that melted and exposed a 19th century godl mine, still in working condidtion. The alarmist have no problem using hyperbole though.

But the best line by far is the Canadian Climatologist that said, 'if climate isn't changing, that is when you need to worry'.

Jim, I continue to be amazed at your creativeness. You must think long and hard before coming up with new ways to butcher the King's English. It must be an act, because several weeks ago you posted a coherent, well-expressed post that belies your attempts to deceive us into believing you are the penultimate redneck.

Good job!! Keep it up!

Check out how these "carbon credits" are being traded. This is all about money.

Martiniman is correct.

This global warming thing is like going outside one day and noticing that it is hotter than normal and concluding the world is on fire and we are all going to die. This old orb has been going through slight changes for millenia.

Now have you seen the pictures on TV showing the glaciers melting an falling into the sea? The storyline is always the ocean is rising and the beach will be in Arizona soon. Let me ask you a question. Been to the beach lately? Seen any waves in Orlando?

Man can't even make it rain in the southeast US. How can we be 'warming' the whole dang planet?

When climate is NOT changing, that is when you need to worry.
