What are the laws concerning having a firearm..ie..22 rifle on the lake? I fish alone alot, and see quite a few snakes. While most stay away a few won't go away. I am thinking about getting a rifle that is water proof, so as not to ruin my Browning 22. Is it legal to have it with me if it is not loaded. Any assistance is appreciated.

I Don't care if it is. I carry a little 410 for such reasons while fishing.

If the snake falls into the boat, well... don't shoot it :)

Water targets are fair game in my opinion. I tend to agree with BD

I believe you will get better results from a shotgun (BDGRIFF's idea of a .410) - with less chance of glancing the bullet off the water.

I believe you can have a gun - it must be unloaded while under power (i.e. duck hunting).

I just bought a 5 shot revolver that fires 410 shot shells or 45 cal bullets. Made by Taurus and purchased at Mark's in Birmingham. It is really cool.

It is perfectly legal to carry and fire a rifle, shotgun or pistol on the lake. However, if you carry a handgun concealed on your person or in your boat, you need a pistol permit from the Sheriff or your county. I also carry a Taurus pistol that fires .410 shotgun shells. It is a great snake gun & I got it at Shur Shot on 280. The only danger of using a .22 would be a ricochet off of the water that might hit a cabin (or house these days).

And be able to identify what type of snake you are shooting at. You may be increasing the number of poisonous snakes in your area if you shoot king snakes, etc.

If they do not have what you want, there is a palce in Alex city called sure shot. They have a good selection of guns. I got a great deal on my wifes Taurus Titanium Ultralite. Perfect gun for a womans first hand gun.
