Form email to FERC - really effective?

I subscribed and hence receive a copy of every comment submitted on the relicensing. I am disappointed there is a form email being submitted to FERC over and over. It is submitted by different people but I quit reading them when I realized they are all the same. I am seeing 40-50 of them a day now. If the people at FERC are like me, they have tuned out on those form emails. If you comment, please at least use your own words. And even better - review the DEIS before commenting so you can make constructive comments.

Rick, no offense, but most people are not going to want to click through and come up with their own things to say, much less take the hours required to read the draft EIS. The key is to make a simple email with clear action steps to get people to act.
Also, unless I am wrong about how this works with FERC - an eComment that merely says "I vote for AL Power" counts as much as an eloquent, 6,000 term paper. 1 comment, 1 vote.
So I would respectfully disagree with Rick and say, if it's your inclination to write a long, thoughtful response, great. Go for it.
But - don't let that stop you if long responses aren't your style. Use what has been suggested; that is better than doing nothing.
Just respond.
For the vast amount of people, the choice is to copy what is suggested or to do nothing.
Let's don't be critical of each other. In my opinion we have spent 6 years squabbling amongst ourselves and it has cost us.
Again I say, if writing a long response is your thing, great. Good for you. But don't begrudge folks that want to do it fast to get on the record with FERC. That's much better than nothing.

Ditto John's comments. I used the basic text suggested but made a few changes...There is strength in numbers!

I agree with John, the main objective is to show FERC that there is broad-based support for APCOs proposal, not whether the individual will actually take the time to compose their own message. I see this with public comments on environmental projects all the time. 6,000 form emails has way more influence on EPA than 10 well researched, thoughtful public comments. Their calculus is simple, I can go with the 10 guys that took a lot of time to respond or the 6,000 that sent me a form email. Which will give me less grief, the ten or the 6,000? Easy answer. Send the emails, submit an e-comment, just do something.
