He is absolutely on target.
Republican hard-liners are ‘false prophets,’ Boehner says
(Steve Helbe/AP)
Outgoing House Speaker John A. Boehner, in his first one-on-one interview since announcing his resignation last week, compared conservative hard-liners in his party to biblical "false prophets" who promise more than they can deliver.
Asked Sunday by host John Dickerson on a live broadcast of CBS's "Face the Nation" whether those hard-liners are "unrealistic about what can be done in government," Boehner exploded.
"Absolutely, they're unrealistic!" he said. "But, you know, the Bible says beware of false prophets, and there are people out there spreading noise about how much can get done."

Boehner sold hisself to da dimokrap devil to get his "position" as Speaker of tha House, so I'm sure he will blame others for his own failure to lead. He will soon be sellin' (lobbyin') his wares on capital hill like the snake oil salesman, we all know him to be.

Agree. They are all full of promises.....no cost health care, Joe the Plumber and Donald Trump making the same thing, no immigration problem, free college education, sock it to Wall Street, no nukes for anybody we don't like, phones for all, homes for all (in that order of importance), jobs for all (does everyone want a job?), and on and on.
Best thing government can do is get out of the way except in areas that I want them to intrude!

Since when has our culture changed from the beliefs that have made America great to now believing that those same beliefs are those held by 'false prophets'? Can any of you say that you are "better" off today than you were six and a half years ago? Do you recall that our current President ran on a platform that he was going to "transform America"? I guess he has succeeded by apologizing for everything that is great about America. I still think that most Americans still believe that the things that made America great have not changed. It seems to me that the 'false prophets' are those that no longer believe in what America stands for. I think that a "true" American believes in the "Constitution", believes in "enforcing the laws passed by Congress", believes in "maintaining a strong military", believes in a "balanced budget", believes in "enforcing laws on immigration", believes in the "right to bear arms", and on and on. How can any one question the qualifications and motivation of the candidates who are seeking the Republican nomination when the only qualification of our current President was that of a "Community Organizer". As for as being realistic about what can be done ln covernment, you can't do anything if you don't try. I rest my case"

Don't knock the free phone. I am waiting for my new Apple 6S to replace my current 6. I requested 128GB of memory to replace the current one with only 64 GB. My music collection continues to grow since they sent me my last free phone. I sure hope the "false prophets" don't try and tie defunding Planned Parenthood and free phones. Sure glad the government is there when I need them.

May I remind you that 6 1/2 years ago we were losing 700,000 jobs per month, Unemployment was over 9%, the stock market was down 50%, Banks were failing left and right, housing values were in free fall, foreclosures were a record levels, Gasolene was $3.75 / gallon, wages for those lucky enough to have a job were going down, poverty rates were going up, economic confidence was at it's lowest point in decades, General Motors / Crysler / Delta Airlines / American Airlines and thousands of other companies were bankrupt, and my work had pretty much dried up!! Today I have enough work to be selective, my modest and very conservative portfolio is up over 40%, I am now on Medicare so my health insurance cost have been cut 60% and we no longer have a moron in the White House. He// yeah I am better off than 6 1/2 years ago and, whether or not you even realize it, so are you I suspect!
As to American values...as far as I am concerned the true values of America are holding strong in spite of the efforts to destroy them by the T party and Christian Jihadists.
I rest my case!

You must be drinking something stronger than "kool aid". Why do polls show that the majority of Americans are mad as He// about our "do nothing" Congress and are clamoring for a change? I hate to rush my old age but I can't wait until 2016.

Of course Boehner is correct about the observation that it is more difficult to accomplish things in our system of government. It was brilliantly designed that way by the founding fathers. But this difficulty is based on the assumption that the rule of law applies. In the case of Obama he has systematically ignored the rule of law and Congress has done little if anything to correct that. What I think Boehner didn't understand is that what many of us want is for them to do everything in their power to prevent the president from imperially changing laws. Instead they were more worried about how the media would treat them or whether they would get invited to all the right cocktail parties in DC. He is a victim of his own inaction.
As for his false prophets analogy, he is showing his ignorance on that score. What is common among the true prophets was their courage in the face of conventional wisdom to proclaim the truth and face the consequences. False prohets have no courage and will not proclaim the truth regardless of the consequences. If the new GOP leadership actually shows some courage and fights back against Obama's lawlessness they will be rewarded even if they fall short of their goals.

You've changed the question

Hey, you asked the question my friend. The question was whether we are better off now than 6 1/2 years ago, not my opinion of the president or congress. If you had asked why the polls show the country is mad as he// l would have given a very different answer. I too am mad as hell about the "do nothing congress" and I am pretty sure, based on other polls comparing approval of Democrats in congress vs Republicans in congress, your idea of why everybody is mad and the majority's of Americans idea is not the same.
Now, will you please answer a question I have already asked on the forum and received no answer. You seem to put some stock in polls. An earlier poster condemned the congress for not doing something that, according to polls had 70% support of the people and which he or she considered important. Ok 85% to 90% (including over 70% of Republicans) according to polls favor manditory background checks of ALL gun sales including private sales at gunshows. I am among that 85+%. Since the polls show such broad support I assume you join me in calling on Congress to act? I await your answer.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander...are you the pot calling the kettle black...hypocrisy by any other name smells the same!

So far you are the only one who has answered the question "are you better off today than you were six and a half years ago". I assume most people had just as soon to not get in a back and forth argument on the subject. I have no problem with background checks being required to purchase firearms. However, that will not stop criminals and others from obtaining firearms. If a person wants a firearm they will not let that stop them.
