I know as a child, my parents taught me about the history of our country. How it all got started, and how it was founded on Christian beliefs, I will be raising my sons to love God, and to love our great Country. I do not understand how the parents of young Americans (18-35) have taught the majority of them nothing about the USA. I wish that we would adopt the same practices as Israel. Making it mandatory for all high school graduates to serve in the military. That way, everyone would have to learn about our country, and maybe, just maybe have a little more pride in it. I served in the Corps for 8 years. My father served two tours in Vietnam on a voluntary basis not as a draftee, and both my grandfathers were at Pearl Harbor. I believe this has a great deal to do with the way I was raised. I know the military idea would never happen, but I believe it would instill a greater sense of pride and country

Military service is a wonderful thing and I think a lot of young Americans would benefit greatly from the opportunity to serve their country. Your observation about Israel is an interesting point. Too bad our politicians will never have the courage to take on the idea of a draft.

There is so much to be gained by spending a tour in the military....an awful lot of our kids these days grow up with too little discipline, too little accountability, and never actually having to meet an appointment or deadline. Being in the military teaches all of those.

Used to be when I met someone new I'd be able to ask "What branch did you serve in?" Now it is hard to find someone who actually served at all (I'm and old f@rt but most of our friends are quite a bit younger).

Have a good lake day, and pray no airplanes drop out of the sky today. I'll be on a couple of them....!!
