Well, now the Messiah has teamed up with law firms wanting to charge people struggling to make mortgage payments. If you go to the website and fill out the forms you will be inundated with calls from private law firms offering to renegotiate your mortgage with your lender for several thousand dollars.
Why doesn't it surprise me that the community agitator/lawyer is using the office of the President of the United States to schlep legal work for his campaign contributors. I guess it beats staining blue dresses like we had with our last Dem President but this is just the beginning for this incompetent administration.

There is one that seems to link to a legal office (I think it was "saveyourhome.biz") but didn't see any mention of the government or the President on it.
So where did you find this?

I don't think it is a scam. It appears to be a legitimate governmet website that refers people to "HUD approved" counselors who aren't going to rip people off. I have a feeling that the counselors give advice to people on what to do if they are eligible for some kind of assistance program. There are a ton of websites and 1-800's that pray on people's panic. They charge them huge fees and don't do anything for them. In some cases, they charge a fee for a promise to deal with people's lenders and have the borrower's make the payments to them. But, the lenders won't deal with them and the borrowers end up in a biggr hole. My BIL specializes in bankuptsy law and sees these kind of rip-offs all the time. While he mostly deals with businesses, since the crisis began, he sees some individual cases. He says it is heartbreaking how scared and panicked the people are.

My daughter is also in Bankruptcy law representing banks. The stories she tells me make me want to puke. One lady walks in and is about to have her house foreclosed on. She has a BMW, 700 series,a $500 purse and dressed to the "T's." My daughter suggests that she give her bedroom set back to Rooms to Go to eliminate a $300+ monthly payment. The ladies response, "What am I supposed to sleep on." My daughter says, "how about your $1700 couch." Anywho, I'm sure Obama has an answer.

Hound you kill me. I swear if Obama raped someone you would claim it was consensual sex. The fact is people went to the website expecting "help" from the government and they were called by lawyers that charge a fee. Why is the government in the business of funneling work to lawyers?
The fact is most people go there expecting a handout and all they get is inundated with calls from lawyers. Is this really what you want the President of the U.S. doing? If so, then we are in much worse shape as a country than I ever feared.

There you go with those rose-colored glasses again.
Maybe not a scam, but is it right for the Government to be pushing people to commercial entities?

I don't know what arrangements the government has made for referrals. I don't know if these "counselors" are under contract to the USG to provide services for a lower rate fee or if the fee is waved if you qualify. I don't know the extent of Obama's personal involvement in this -- I would think this is coming out of the Department for Housing and Urban Development or maybe out of Treasury. I don't know the whole story about it, and I suspect neither do you, since I doubt any of us will be taking on their services -- at least I hope not. Generally speaking, the USG doesn't recommend one commercial entity over another in the interest of being fair and impartial.
No, in a case of rape I would not say it is consenual; however, knowing how the government works, the President may or may not get briefed on a plan, and even if he did, he would not get that personally involved with the details. It certainly worked this way under the past 3 Administrations (not counting Obama). It might surprise you to know that after the President sets out an agenda and names his priorities, Departments go about supporting that agenda. Not every decision goes to the President or even to his advisors or staff. People tend to think governmet is very top-down, but it's not. More often than not, it's bottom-up. The big guys don't work out the details. That's why they have large staffs of people. And the WH staff pretty much makes sure that the President is insulated.
Lamont, I have no doubt that there are cases such as you mention. My BIL doesn't take on very many personal bankruptsy cases, as he specializes in business. He has told me on several ocassions that the people he has seen have generally not abused their finances, but have been forced to go this route. I, personally, have always thought that personal bankruptsy was for losers (i.e., those who don't have the discipline to manage their money), but in this economy, I'm not so sure any more. (And a $1700 sofa isn't as extravagant as you might think.)

You haven't seen enough of Alabama....you've been cooped up in your well-to-do world too long. And before you protest too much, in many, many peoples' eyes you are well-to-do.
How many $1700 sofas do you reckon there are on that 12 or 13 mile stretch of 259 between Equality and Alex City?

do you think are participating in this discussion? Have you priced sofa's lately? Pick up a Pottery Barn catalogue and those are considered "affordable". Given that the median income in Coosa County is well below my singular retirement income, I doubt that there are too many $1700 sofas. But, the other neighbors on my street (I'm the only full-timer) all have homes in Birmingham, so I don't think that a $1700 sofa would be too foreign a possibility for them. And I have a feeling that if you polled your neighbors in Montgomery, they wouldn't be to shocked at that either.
I won't even explain to you the realities of $500 purses...

LOL -- you are right. No, the rape part was in response to the comment MM made about my faith in Obama. The rest should have been a new paragraph...
But, thanks for the laugh. Reading it back it was pretty funny. We'd have to ask Clinton if that is true...
BTW, there is a place in Georgetown called "The Mansion" and people rent it out for private parties and such. Long before the Lewinsky scandal, rumors abounded about Clinton's staff renting out the bedroom suite for his assignations. One of my colleagues had a good friend that worked for the Washington Post.

After 100 days of nothing but buffoonery you have yet to find one problem that you are willing to assign to the Messiah. The guys has debates with his own teleprompter, he bows to a Saudi dictator, he insults heads of state and on and on and yet you can't find one thing that is his fault. Its always the staff.....he wasn't briefed.....he is too busy....blah, blah, blah.
This is all going to wear very thin and you are going to look even more like some sort of hypnotized sycophant to a mediocre President. If I had the time I can guarantee I can find numerous posts in the past where you stated Bush had to be held accountable because he is where the buck stops but suddenly it is never the responsibility of the guy at the top. And only because he is your guy and you voted for him......more than a bit of hypocrisy, no?

Its not about who might be participating in this discussion. Its about mainstream America - that you continually demonstrate you are totally out of touch with.
You need to spend some time with the common folk in Greene County. In Selma. In Union Springs. In West Montgomery. Quality time, not just a fly-by. You need to spend some time with the river rats in southern Mississippi, the farmers in Arkansas, and the field hands in California. The you'll see that your $1700 sofa may be common for some, but only in the dreams of many.
And your $500 purse comment, if serious, was about as pompous and arrogant as they get. I've been to weddings where the bride carried a faded denim purse because it was the only one she had. Next I guess you'll tell us every woman has 200 pair of shoes?

I'm sorry I'm not in touch with the "common folk". I suppose you have many friends that you regularly socialize with in these places that you are taking me to task for? How many people do you regularly socialize with along 259? Got a lot of friends down in the hood in Montgomery too, do you? No, I didn't think so.
My only comment was that $1700 was not an outrageous amount to spend for sofa and you want to take me to task for being out of touch. I'd like to hear from WW and MM about how much they paid for their sofas. Maybe a lot of us are "out of touch".
And I don't plan on sharing with you how much I spend on my purses or shoes or how many I have. No doubt, you'd be shocked and call me elitist.

It amazes me that you consistently are ignorant of history, even recent history. The fact is that when the Republican Party held to the very same conservative principals that I hold they had tremendous electoral success. We controlled both the House and Senate and the White House. When Republicans abandoned the very same conservative principals over the eight years of Bush they have been sent to the electoral woodshed.
I will take my own counsel on what Republicans need to do to regain some measure of control over the government and not from some Washington insider leftist who defends an incompetent administration. And please try to use facts if you want to dispute my contention but you cannot because the facts are what they are.
You say we focus on small gaffes but that is not true. I would point out my many posts demonstrating that Obama is a socialist and he is selling our children and grandchildren down the river with trillions in wasted government spending and debt. For that alone he deserves to be drummed out of office like Jimmy Carter. That is neither insignificant nor minor. I would point out his stupid decision to "close" Guantanamo and here we are still trying to figure what to do with hardened Islamofascists who given the chance would gladly behead you, the Messiah and any other American they can get their evil hands on. And we are now begging Europe to take them off our hands because he proclaimed something without thinking it through. That was an incredibly stupid thing for him to do and that is no small gaffe. I would point out that he is trying to nationalize multiple corporations and is trying to use the Soviet command and control style of government and it will be a disaster because in all of history it has never worked but he is too stupid and ideological that he doesn't care about America, he only cares about advancing the Democrat party and paying off the unions. I could go on but any one of these, let alone all three, are sufficient justification for sending him back to ACORN accomplishing nothing.....
All the others are merely smaller examples of his fecklessness and incompetence. As I said, it is weaving a tapestry that would cause any intellectually honest person who voted for him (other than the 30% on the far left) to realize that they made a mistake.......but not you.

A lot more than you think, and apparently a lot more than you. Here are just a few examples....One of my closest friends owns a pawn shop near downtown Montgomery - and I have visited him there quite often and spent time with some of his patrons and staff. I grew up with the "hood" literally across my back fence, I recently attended the funeral of the father of the man who cleaned our church, and the birthday party for our cleaning lady's daughter. I helped my current cleaning lady's daughter move. My secretary's two sons are in prison, her daughter gave birth at 15, and she - who isn't 60 yet - has an eight year old great granddaughter....I could go on, but it is pointless. Your posts strike me as you being out of touch with the majority of America. W-W, MM, and even you and I are not mainstream America. We are blessed with intelligence, fortitude, home training, and a will to overcome and succeed. I'd be willing to bet that we all grew up in two parent households as well - something that is sadly lacking these days.
Enough. I was at the keyboard at 5:30 AM finishing up a deliverable that is due today and need to chill for a minute or two before going to the office....
No hard feelings -- have a good day!

If you want to include people we worked with -- well, all of my secretaries have been minorities. I managed to get one, who lived in the Alexandria projects, promoted and got another to go back to school -- he completed his two year program while he worked for me. I also launched another minority young man who was from Montgomery, into an industry career. So it's not like I haven't known, and helped the disadvantaged. I talked a secretary, a woman, into going for a promotion that she got. I'm not quite as isolated as you might think. But then again, I haven't been up and down 259 looking for friends either. But, I'm not a snob. I know what it is to work for a living. I didn't hatch as a Washington bureaucrat. I actually worked my way up.
Geez, give me a break.

I thought we were talking about "mainstream" people.
Lamont's point was that some woman came in to file bankrupsy and didn't want to give back her bedroom set. And commented on "where would she sleep". And the response was "her $1700 sofa". And he said she was carrying a $500 bag. So maybe it's that woman that is out of touch. She's the one filing for bankruptsy and having to adjust her standards. Go tell her.
I like nice things, I have nice things, I worked for my nice things and I make no apologies for having them. I am well aware that I am blessed. So if that is being out of touch, then so be it. Ignorance is bliss.

Sounds like a right wing conservative to me!!
By the way Hound, I agree with you 100% about the nice things. But apparently your Messiah wants to take them away from you and give them to others for no other reason than they don't have them.

He comes and takes my guns. I'm not a liberal. I voted for Obama because I thought we were on the wrong track with Iraq. I don't like the bailouts, I think faith based initiatives do more for minorities and the poor than big government programs. I believe in personal responsibility. Voted for Reagan, voted for Bush twice.
