I noticed that there is a Russell Real Estate sign at the Discovery Center at Russell Crossroads. Are they opening a new office there (still seems like a lot of building going on), and can you get listings and such at the Croosroads?

I heard they were going to take the big curve out of hwy 63 and thats exactly where Russell Lands will be moving there offices to. That could be just rumor but, I am sure they will be moving the offic somewhere in the new development (as soon as they raise property taxes on lake dwellers to pay for the project). I have a white paper where they are trying to get Tallapoosa, coosa, elmore & The City of Alex City to let them start their own authority over Lake Martin.

Tallapossa County Commission voted them down but, looks like with the new LAW SUIT that isnt a LAW SUIT they will find a back door in to get what they want out of our pockets one way or the other.

They will do to Real Estate exactly the same as they did to Textiles. It will all belong to them sooner or later in one shape, form or fashion. One day you will have to buy your mailboxes from them just to stay in compliance with the covents they put on your neighborhood.

anyone wanting to see the white pages - just let me know!

You are off base on the zoning issue. None of the counties "voted" on the idea floated by the economic development committee last year, and it seems to be a dead issue now. Take a look around the lake at some of the trash development and tell this forum that what is allowed is in the best interest of anyone on the lake. Fifty houses on 10 acres is not good, 300 additional boats on Blue Creek at Crowne Point is not good. Someone has to do something.

The idea that Russell Crossroads will lead to zoning elsewhere is off base. Russell already zones their land, and Alabama Power zones theirs, so covering the rest should be done.

One of the Ammendments to the State Constitution was proposed by Stillwaters/Dadeville, to allow State and County police to patrol private roads in Tallapoosa County. It was fought HARD by the Crossroads folks, as the "Crossroads plan" includes a road from Willow Point, through the crossroads, and into the Windermere/Ridge area. With the Ammendment passing, Troopers and Sheriffs can now go INSIDE Willow Point, along all the private roads (including the Crossroads), and pull folks over for any violation. RL was none too pleased that the people of Tallapoosa County were in favor of that one.

And what bothered me most in the proposed "Lake City" was the taxation and the control of the board by Russell Lands and Alabama Power.

But all of this is tangential to my question of Russell having an office at the Crossroads. Is there one already there? Or are they building one?

I agree Catherine with you but I am not sure what Wix is talking about... All RL wants is control and as soon as they get enough you will paint your house which ever color they decide. As far as Jet-skis and boats... RL wants more properties built - thus more jet-skis and boats...

They gave me my mailbox!!!!

Catherine, I think the sales office is moving there so you will not have to deal with the gate at Willow Point, but I am not sure about the Russell Lands corporate offices.

DaBurglar, the "white paper" you referred to is the effort by the economic development committee to construct the beginnings of a zoning board. It was blamed on RL, but was not totally their work.

Catherine, the approval for Sheriff's patrol inside gated communities was sought for and won by StillWaters residents. I'm not sure, but I think the amemdment only applies to the Sheriff and only if invited to patrol by the residential association. Not sure why RL would fight such a benefit.

The ammendment was proposed by StillWaters, with the obvious intention of providing police inside their gates, but since StillWaters is not incorporated the only way it could be approved was that it apply for all of Tallapoosa County, and no invitation is needed now that it has passed. It applies to ALL private roads in Tallapoosa County, including old FS roads and "trails which commonly accomodate vehicular traffic."

Russell fought it because it would allow Troopers and Sheriffs inside the gate at Willow Point, and any of their future planned communities in Tallapoosa County. It will now be possible for a Trooper to sit on Willow Point Road, INSIDE the gates, and pull over motorists who violate or are suspicious. The most sensitive issue with Russell was apparently the roads to, through, and from the Crossroads. They were intended to be private, allowing free passage, in any state of mind, from Willow Point back to the Ridge. That's not going to happen now.

Personally, I applaud it, but I don't drink, and I don't well tolerate those who do and still insist on driving. I can't think of a better place to write DUI tickets than the parking lot of the most elitist, exclusively private club in the county. I just hope it is the Sheriff writing most of the tickets in and around Willow Point so that most of the money stays in Tallapoosa County. However, it is widely known that the State Troopers assigned to this area have always had a penchant for Willow Point, so a much smaller percentage of the tickets they write (and I imagine they will write most of the tickets in and around Willow Point) will stay in Tallapoosa County. I have not met the new Trooper assigned to this area, but if you can imagine, they say he is even worse and more dead-set on Willow Pointers than the recently-retired Trooper.

No, they didn't turn me down. In fact, they gave me my first membership, then begged me to stay on. I did for quite a while, but I just didn't use it enough to justify the four hundred something each month. I can't play golf anymore, and most of my friends are still members, so I still use the club quite a bit

The problem isn't the club, but the members. Once they get here from wherever they're from, they think they're safe and untouchable. No more, thank God :)
