Anyone know how to build the Green Monster light. I have never seen one but would love to try it... I saw where you can use a street light and build one on here but not enough info...
Ideas?

I bought one of those lights and they are easly to build. It is just a 175W bulb and ballast. You can order two of the street light style lights with the ballast and photocell for $68.00 for both on the internet. Then you can simply wire in the bulb to street light. The trick is making the bulb and socket connection waterproof so you don't have a short. You could order the bulb and cable from Ronnie (green monster fishings light creator) and then wire it to the street light.

Why him his outragous prices. The most expensive thing is the GFI plug that you need IF you don't already have a GFI recepticle at the water. For wire all you need is a 5$ HD extension cord and cut the ends off. Teh $40 'street light' has everything else.

You guys just love to spend money; head to Lowes, get a Cooper wall mount 175 W light - $24.988 + tax. Anything copper however will bite you, just spent almost $15.00 on 25' of 14/2 nm-b with ground for another project.
BTW DaBurglar - I think your ultralight buddy still has more of the lights that he is using as overheads on his hanger deck - get him to help you wire up a more power underwater light...

The green light is the color reflected off of the envious boat ban people. OK, almost kidding - working on a light this week, will let you and JB know how it goes. He is about 1.2 miles from me by water.

.... because of the color of the water. Nothing else. There is no magic green bulb. Put ANY light under lake water and is will shine green. I have seen flourescent tubes made into underwater lights for crappy fishing and they show green under water.
And Summer Lover, my $5 heavy duty extension cord is cheaper than your $25 roll of wire, so who likes to spend money?

Actually, I said that the roll of wire was for a different project - running another can light at the house in the rec room. And yes, you are right; an extension cord is likely the least expensive route to go for the wiring. Have you built yours yet?

I don't have to, my neighbor did and it works GREAT!! Actually I don't even fish. I have arthritis in my hands and tying fishing line is next to impossible.
My mistake on the wire, I guess I read it wrong. I thought it was funny that you stated we like to spend money, then gave a more expensive way to do the wiring....lol

I would love to see a finished one (preferably above water). Why dont a few of us get together so we can check one out. I am just north of the river bridge but, have boat will travel.
