I love the lake, but every summer holiday that rolls up I remember a good friend of mine that was killed in a boating accident on July 4th, 1993. He was just out of high school and attending AU at the time. It was obviously a huge loss to the community he was from and his death was directly related to a boat operator that had been drinking.

It seems that an accident happens like this once a summer - often during Memorial Day Weekend.

I have been reading on here and it seems that many are trying to find out just how much drinking can take place on a boat within the law. I am asking everyone to be careful and not to let anyone drink and operate a boat or PWC.

Let's do what we can to prevent this from being a weekend that ruins a family.

Three reasons to stay at the dock this weekend.

1. Save gas
2. I will knocking back beer and margaritas.
3. Too many non-experienced boaters on the lake this weekend.

My Dad referrs to Memorial Day Weekend, July 4th, and Labor Day Weekend as "Amature Day" as there are many non experienced boaters on the water (and many are impaired).

If you have family and friends that want to see the lake while they're here, take them out early morning, that is the best time on the lake during the holiday weekend, well any summer weekend as far as that goes. The drunks are all still asleep or too hung over to get out in a boat! Hope everyone has as good a weekend as I know I will have.
