I gathered at least 20 bags of garbage , and 10 tires from the madwind area the past two weekends. People are such pigs!! I recommend everyone clean up as much as possible before the water level rises again.

I agree with Walter. Picked up a dishwasher (yes, a dishwasher!) and several bags of trash from a little inlet. Aluminum cans, boat oil containers, and fishing gear is all over the place. We keep trash bags on our boat for cleaning up islands and "stuff" in the water. Ths is our chance to clean-up OUR lake. I can't make it for the organized clean-up, but I sure can do my part. Wish everyone would at least clean up in front of their own homes!

There were about 12 tires that surfaced so I just took them and threw them in deeper water so I would not have to look at them. A much easiler solution than hualing them off.

Jokes go under the JOKES heading link....."before the water rises"......I guess it could be wishful thinking but looks like another muddy mess on the way this summer! I bet the lake won't make 485 this year. 1/10 every 3 or 4 days is not going to cut it. We missed the hurricane help so unless the bottom falls out of the sky this spring....you better invest in a floating dock. "water rises"...makes me laugh.

Hey Walter,
My neighbors just placed their tires (off their car) in the lake bed beside my house. I'm sure they don't think of themselves as pigs. They think a fish habitat made of tires is a very cool thing.

What should we do with the tires? Last time we put some out with the trash, we found them on the ground next to the trash cans.

DUH, if I were not you I would find the deepest part of the lake, and throw them in. Make sure they are on nice rims and have the correct air pressure. Someone will get . Let me know when and where you put them in the lake. Need B. F. Goodrich AT 285x75x16.

Dude! Rubber tires are NOT a healthy part of any ecosystem. Nor should they to be used as bonfire fuel as is the custom among many a redneck. I can see using old christmas trees or other organic material for " fish habitat", but old tires??? come on. By the way another fishing method that drives me crazy is the floating styrofoam or plastic bottle attached to a line and hook that invariably is abandoned to become more litter. How about all you fisherman that claim to be friends of the environment take a few biology / ecology classes (or maybe even just read a book about) , and learn a little about the environment. Then you can help protect it instead of just exploit it!!!

Don't you know that if you don't like trash and fuel and beer cans and people sitting in front of your house pissing off a boat you are a left wing environmentalist whako--probably voting democratic on top of it all. Actually if you do a little research you will find that they have used tires for a long time to create reef systems (both in fresh and saltwater environments). They are composed almost entirely of rubber and carbon and are not a source of contaminants. They also use old tires to make playground materials and so on.
However, I would agree that throwing tires into the lake indiscriminantly is definitely an eyesore. Unless there is some regulation preventing it, there is nothing inherently wrong with using them to create a reef system to attract fish.

Sorry Martiniman....I like a good Martini, but hate OLD tires at the bottom of the lake! Trash is trash! You are right about the tires being used as playground mulch, but that is much different then being thrown into OUR lake.
