Can anybody tell me where to take trash that doesn't fit into my Sunflower trash can? Does Tallapoosa county have dumpsters like Lee county? Can you get a permit to use a dump in Dadeville or Alex City? Thanks -

There are no dumpsters in tallapoosa co. ( to my knowledge ). You can haul it to the dump on hwy 49 after it crosses the interstate 85 if you want. If it's not much I always wait for the pickup and the gentleman has always been patient as I loaded the trash can again and on some occassions helped me. Got a nice tip too he did. Don't get caught putting trash in the Lee Co. dumpsters if you don't want to pay a nice fine. They are only for folks who live out in the Lee Co. area itself, not inside a city limits or other countys.

I went to the Alex city hall and bought a permit for around 10 bucks and dumped at the City landfill. The landfill was about 3 miles north of town past Cecils Restrurant. This was a couple of years ago.

We are weekenders(do not shoot me!). Sometimes we have more trash than the receptacle can accomodate. We put the other trash in plastic trash bins with lids and placed next to Sunflower receptacle. They did not pick up those bins. When we called to complain, they stated that they would pick up two extra bags if not in a trash bin but placed next to receptacle. We explained that the reason we put in trash bins is to keep the trash from getting spread all over the place by deer, racoons, dogs, etc.

They basically said "too bad". When we asked for a manager we got a recording and, of course, no return phone call. I also had some cardboard boxes...they said they would pick up for a $75 fee. Nice!

Considering that we only use the lake home 3 out of the 12 months we pay, some consideration along these lines is not that extreme. Especially, when I found out that during the off season they actually skip stops unless thaey know that garbage is there. I found this out last winter when we had some trash after a clean up weekend.

Now I have garbage that has been sitting out in the sun for three weeks since we have not been able to travel to the lake. Bet that is going to smell real nice!

Purchasing a dump ticket at city hall in Alex City still is a good option. The fee is not too bad and they will give you directions. The only problem is that is only open weekdays and the first Saturday of the month.

I have just gotten my sunflower service. Of course they took 3 weeks delivering the can, and when they did, they did not pick up the trash the first weekend. I called on Friday when I discovered we had been missed and complained. Then when the weekend was over, we put 2 additional cans of trash with the Sunflower can. I called and left a message that I had done that and that we had been missed and they should not miss us again and ALL the cans should be emptied. They picked up all the trash in all 3 cans.

Also, when I called for service, they told me I could make my service seasonal, so for those of you who only use your home for 3 months, I would call and convert to seasonal service.

The other option I thought of, was to have Sunflower deliver another can. I guess you will have to pay the deposit, but it beats leaving it out for the dogs to dig through.

Now you've gone and done it. Took away a bunch of complaints. But they will find something else to complain about. How about all these weekend warriors taking their trash back home!!!!!!

I am a weekender. I pay my mortgage, maintanence and taxes just like anyone else all year long. I respect the lake and treat it accordingly. I see myself as a full time home owner. Why do I deserve less in services than you just because I do not live there full time? This weekenders versus fulltimers is 110% waste of time.

Sorry noagenda. I refer to weekend warriors as non-property owners who have little or no respect for the lake or anyone who lives there full or part time. I was just kidding around a little and didn't mean any harm. Every morning when I walk it makes me sick to see all the trash left behind on the roads. Also when the water goes down I get to clean up all the trash that drifted into my slough. Check all the sloughs as you ride the lake and you will see what I mean. Peace.
