The Washington Post provides monthly a two to three page color page listing with the names, pictures and a slight bit of biography to include schools and etc. of each Soldier, Sailor and Air Man that we loose in the useless war in Iraq. I personally cry and am not ashamed of admitting it when I read it. I read every word and look at every picture. So many for so little. I do wish I were still young enough and brave enough to seek the villain in Afghanistan or where ever he and other religious zealots hide.

No dishonor intended to any of these brave Men and Ladies, but this is a total ego War just like Viet Nam. I served there and saw several Brave Men die and injured for nothing. I am also scarred emotionally since l also saw and held one in my arms while he died and cried for his Mom. I personally also watched the smoke and flames from the Pentagon during the recent attack. I held in my arms the Brother of a man killed in the 2001 attack as he mourned for his Brother who died in the attack I felt once again the same agony.

Please forgive me for my moment of respect for the true Brave and Great. Memorial Day is upon us, and it is not intended to be a three day pleasure weekend for those who are so blessed to enjoy it.

I am possible too old to serve but not to old to fight the useless loss of our Sons and Daughters in Iraq. Please forgive me for this moment, or I would not do justice in my post. I think JIM and many others will attest I am still in grief.

We do owe a moment of great gratitude, and it is our responsibility to stop this injustice.

Someone please jump off the Lake Martin Rock not in the name of pleasure but what Memorial Day stand for .

Feb, very emotional. Hits hard here. The Wars prior to Korea was justified. Nam and what is going on now I have second thoughts. Afganistan, Yes,but Iraq NO. Back in the times of NAM we did what we had to do,sometimes not to sure why we were there ,but did the best we could. Feb, you can play on my team anytime.

I already have my flag displayed on my front porch.

One of my students' brothers was one of the first to go in Iraq. The first month. I have written letters to former students, worried, and cried, too.

I thank any and every serviceman/woman I see today.

Thank you, Feb and Jim, for your past contributions.

Feb, your thoughts on this weekend were moving, and on the mark. I also review the list of those lost in this war, at the following web site.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,82432,00.html
I have spent hours upon hours reading the names and brief descriptions and wonder what the person would have been like in high school, or as a buddy. I can imagine each one with a smile on their face, enjoying something that they held dear, as fun loving Americans. One thing we as Americans cherish is our right of personal expression. These individuals have perished, and other suffered, and many times over more have served to ensure that we can be the pompous, thankless a$$es that some of us are. What I am saying is that as a veteran with honorable service I now honor the current and past service men and women from a personal perspective. If I thought there were something I could or should do above and beyond to make a difference to those who have past, I would do it daily, for our current contributions could never equal the dedication of those before us.

As I sit on the lake this weekend, enjoying the laughter and comaraderie of others I will be reminded throughout the day, as in any day of my personal perspective on the gifts of the past when I see our flag posted proudly upon the boats and houses around the lake. I will enjoy the freedoms provided to me by those ultimate sacrifices, and perhaps I will think about you specifically, and wish you could be onboard with us, momentarily putting your unfortunate memories behind, if for a brief moment.

If celebration is on you plans, be thankfull. If paying respect to the fallen and to those who have served is on you plans, then I thank you. Regardless of your motivation, get out and do something. Its the American way.

Feb thanks for your post. Most people sharing our freedom today will never realize the debt that we will never be able to pay the men and women who serve to protect us nor the price that has been paid that we can be free today. God Bless our service men and women.

feb,
What a wonderful post! I too keep up with all of our fallen heroes! My husband is in the U.S. Army and recently returned from a one year tour in Iraq. Thank God he made it home to us safely. Unfortunately, one of our soldiers was not so lucky. So, this Memorial Day, I will honor all of our men and women serving at home and abroad for the freedoms that so many of us take advantage of on a daily basis. I will also honor our fallen comrade SSG Samuel Castle who was killed by a roadside bomb a little over a year ago. He was a very stellar soldier, one of the best! He left behind a wife (who was also serving in Iraq when her husband was taken from her) and two beautiful children. To all those that have served and are serving our armed forces today, thank you and God's speed!

Thank you, Feb, for a great post! I, too, served even earlier in the Korean War era, although not in combat. My three brothers also served in the military. I have great respect for our military men and women and their families and their sacrifices. That is why I am so opposed to idiotic war such as the invasion of Iraq. We needed to focus on Bin Laden and Afghanistan. Find him and kill him, but instead we made a stupid decision to invade Iraq and we are paying dearly for it. The country has finally wised up and show it with a 32% approval rating for this President. The sooner he and his pals are out of power the better this country will be. Meantime, we honor our men and women who simply serve and die. They do not choose where to serve. They simply obey our leaders and trust them to make wise decisions. May they rest in peace.
