I have mailed off my big stack of photocopies of old deeds, tax maps, etc., to one of the names I was given by the Forum (who recently suveyed a piece of property for Chuck's Marina, near my place). Without seeing any of the information, he has ball parked the survey at $400. I guess that seems fair?
Now I will wait to see whether my deed is the good one or if it, too, has "bad calls." Thanks again for everyone's help and suggestions.

Welcome to the "Sleepless Nights Club". You are not alone. Lake Martin was originally surveyed in the 1920's and there are many errors. Good luck to you!
