have any owners out there returned deposits to renters this year due to the low water levels? am I crazy or is that the right thing to do? why would I have a vacation on a lake and have to trailer my boat in and out of the water every day?

You were right to return the deposit. We took our cabin off the rental market after July 4 because our dock is high and dry. We sure hated to lose the income from the summer rental.

I contact all my renters by the first of June and told them if the water continued to drop we would not have water at our dock by late June.

I also told them if it was me I would cancel their plans. Also all notices were given at least 6 weeks in advance.

I took our home off the rental market immediately thereafter and placed a LOW WATER LEVEL warning on my rental site so others would be aware of the water level in case others they spoke with did not inform them of the situation.
