often when I see those I use ctrl-alt-del and launch taskmanager and kill the web browser.
Part of the reason I am not seeing those is that I use ad-blocker plus - many news sites require you to white list them to be able to view stuff because they want to get paid for the ad.
Chrome w/Ad blocker plus has been good to me, and stops much of the insanity. It is nice because it shows you a count of the crap blocked per webpage ( as I am typing Lakes online is only 3) I have seen major national news sites up in the 20-30 range, it is amazing the crap you get from legit sources vs the old days when you could count on the viruses and scams on mostly porn sites. Used to make decent money just doing nothing but cleaning up machines after someone went to a porn site that was loaded with viruses.
Wierdest one I ever had dealings with was a ad on the WSJ that linked back to China and loaded up a fun java script virus down on an someone. He was growling about never going to bad sites etc. when we found the virus and inspected the origins he was shocked he got it from the WSJ. They had sold the ad space that pointed out to a http:// web address - it probably was legit till someone later changed the web address to somewhere in China.
