I heard a rumor or story, maybe somebody here knows the truth. I was told that Ben Russell wrote a book, some sort of mystery thriller. Everybody who read it told him it was great, but then it turned out that there was a problem with the printing and some pages didn't print or were printed wrong, something like that, the sort of thing that anyone who really read the book would have noticed. Ben got really mad because he figured out that nobody had really read the book after all. True story?

The book was so difficult to read, very few people made it to the missing pages, and of those that did, fewer noticed that pages were missing.

I suspect only two people actually read the entire book:

Ben,

and the guy who Ben paid to write it.

The missing pages are actually nine CHAPTERS; it goes from Chapter 10 to Chapter 20. It's believable that no one ever made it that far; I could also see where someone would have no clue that a huge chunk was missing, it's so disjointed.

Someone gave me a copy, thank God; I would hate to see it on the bookshelf and know that I paid real money for it. I can't believe Ben would have paid anyone to write it for him, because no one who writes that badly would ever have the gall to charge for his services.

To me it reads more like someone tried to cram every big word he ever heard into 300 pages, and then added some more with the help of a thesaurus. (It might be more than 300 pages; I don't know how many pages the nine missing chapters have.)

I only made it through a few chapters myself, after that the tears made my eyes too blurry. The tears that a re a combo of laughing hysterically and crying in pain are the worst.
