First Romney discovered he liked "cheesy grits".  Not to be outdone, Newt has now made it clear that he "gets" grits -- cheese grits, grits with gravy, shrimp grits.

Glad they cleared this up.  I wonder if Newt can say "y'all".    Neither has come forward with their position on pick up trucks, coon dogs, or if they like their BBQ chopped or sliced, with or without slaw, BGE.  We can only hope they clarify these things today.

Since Obama is such an everyman himself, you think he will invite Karzai over for a beer to work out this whole dead people thing? He is so charming you know, almost transformative (if I may be so bold)

You know, I really can't joke about what happened this weekend in Afghanistan.  It's too horrifying to joke about -- not only the loss of Afghani lives at the hands of a US soldier, but what it says about what repeated tours of duty may be doing to our soldiers. What happened this weekend puts all Americans in Afghanistan at immediate risk.  And I can't find that funny.

I'm sorry if you can't see the humor in what I posted and that you are so desperate to disparage Obama that you can't laugh about the ridiculousness of comments that candidates make.

I don't see any humor in murder either.
I do have a problem with hypocrisy - and whether you are already the president, or just trying to be the president doesn't really change that reality

You know, the kind that came and stayed, and I married a GRIT ( girl raised in the South), and I can truly understand why the candidates would want to make GRITS the center piece of their campaign swing. Beautiful, good hearted, giving, impeccable manners, an absolute pleasure to escort anywhere, and rarely an unkind word. So different from many raised elsewhere.

Okay, Comrade, you have truly lost me. What does hypocrisy have to do with this topic? Don't you find it somewhat humorous and ironic that candidates bring up food, as an element of their campaigns? Mitt brings up what is a laughable attempt to connect with Southerners, and then Newt jumps on the bandwagon? As far as I know, Obama has not weighed in the grits issue.

Well bless your heart! Funny, my Southern husband (born and raised in the South) married a Jersey girl. I've never heard any complaints, and we've been married coming up on 33 years.

The hypocrisy is that these people are trying to be something they are not - isn't that why you thought it was funny to pair Romney with grits?

But congrats on 33. M and I will celebrate 33 on Columbus Day this year, Lord willing.

Ours is October 9th.

Yup. Exactly. With the exception of maybe Nixon, I think most Presidential candidates (and those that go on to be President) are charming people. You don't get to that level of politics without having a certain amount of charisma. One of the things people always say about Bill Clinton is how charismatic he is, and I have read that in person GWB, is extremely warm and charming. I was just listening to Anne Romney on the news, and she seems extremely charming (probably more so than her husband). I kinda doubt that Obama is longing for a beer with Kharzi. I think that the whole of the military and the Administration are pretty unhappy with him. I've read that he is bi-polar and impossible to deal with. But, I suspect you are alluding to Obama inviting the professor and the cop to a beer at the WH. Almost every President, early on, comments on something they should just stay out of, and comes back to bite them. They are all human. Remember Bush with "helluva job Brownie"?

Your suspicion is correct, and if their personal humiliation was all that was involved in their behavior, I could live with it.
Unfortunately, these people will change your life

Since I am the liberal in my family, and you wear a similar hat in yours, maybe, as the dates approach, we should double date and celebrate. Give it some thought. Will check back later.

That could be fun.  Are you really the most liberal?

Not really, M is but doesn't know any better, as her lines include retired US bureaucrats, DoJ, Treasury, her grandfather the fed judge (a JFK appointee)t and her grandmother, a beacon of mid to late 20th century liberalism for the eastern shore, right up until the day she died. She thinks she is conservative, and by her families standards is a right wing extremist, yet she makes many of the same arguments you do.

Feb is a bit more conservative than I am, but truthfully, neither of us is all that liberal on the overall spectrum. I'm probably a bit more cynical about politics, particularly when one party or the other says they are going to do something before they get in office. I'm a skeptic. I have a long history of voting Republican, but I'm really having trouble relating to the party anymore, so I guess I'm more Independent. There are some conservatives I like very much, but unfortunately, they aren't running. I believe in a strong national defense, and fiscal responsibility. But they have really lost me on social issues and the separation of church and state. My father is very conservative (he would fit in well here).

but still can't find the just right bumper sticker. I prefer to focus on fiscal conservatism. I practice it personally. I believe that many of our social ills are directly attributable to liberal fiscal policies. Relieving people of personal responsibility, wasteful programs which encourage poor life decisions, eliminating any shame associated with failure, funding "self esteem", and the long term lousy outcomes, all fall under the fiscal umbrella. I will go on about command vs free market economies some other time. I hate the thought of sending kids, and young adults to war, but recognize there may be circumstances which make it necessary. I am just not sure I have seen those necessary circumstances in my lifetime. As for the social, the only bedroom I am interested in is mine and would prefer folks engaged in traditional bedroom activities keep those activities in theirs. I really don't have a compelling need to share the moment, or the life. As for religion, or not, I have mine. If I see you in church, we'll speak. I am uncomfortable playing a missionary role, and would prefer that any efforts to bring me around to another religious point of view be expended elsewhere, like good works. Just make sure that my faith, and my church, is afforded the same level of protection as every other. Finally, SS and Medicare are NOT entitlements, as 15+ cents on every dollar earned is paid first to those programs. They are prepaid programs, programs that need some serious attention, but prepaid programs nonetheless. That little bit of insight into this alias may help you understand why I see todays government, both D and R, elected and appointed, as partying like George in 1775. And we all know how that worked for him.

See, we have more in common than you would think. I found myself nodding in agreement.
