Fox News is well known as a Republican friendly news outlet. Sounds to me like someone in the media who is trying to make a name for himself, and isn't interested in putting out a balanced report.
Why do Republicans and Republican sympathsizers always try to resort to scare tatics? I guess with McCain slipping so badly, they have to try anything they can.

Yes, it is the economy. I don't blame John McCain for this one though -- likely just some news person who figures he can grab some ratings with this kind of trash.
John McCain and Sara Palin have spent so much time convincing their supporters that Obama is an Arab terrorist that they are now in the position of having to take it back and admit he's an American with whom McCain just has fundamental issue disagreements. His campaign of negativity is backfiring.

"Sounds to me like someone in the media who is trying to make a name for himself, and isn't interested in putting out a balanced report."

You must be kidding, or at least very accomplished at the pot calling the kettle black.

I have watched all the major news networks, and to make that statement is laughable. Fox, and Hannity individually, are indeed right-leaners. But the others are far worse, leaning way to the left, and trying to make the public think that what they report is fact - when it is rife with exceptionally biased opinion.

CNN should change their name to ONN - the Obama News Network It really sunk in when I spent a few hours in the JFK airport a while back and had to watch what was on the screen (CNN). You would think that there was only one candidate running for president. All kinds of Obama coverage and NOTHING about his competitor for the spot. Not exactly "balanced".

And what about that guy on MSNBC - fortunately I can't recall his name - Callahan or something - you call that balanced?

And even Tom Brokaw - whom I respected until the other night - took what was supposed to be a Town Hall Meeting format and turned it into a "Tom Brokaw decides what questions will be asked" debate (by his own admission on camera). He took out all of the questions that might have sparked some real debate and insight into the way these guys think, and thus just made it round 2 of the same old drivel.

For all of you Obama supporters, all I have to say is be careful what you ask for - you might get it, but it might not be what you thought it was going to be. Relish your delusions now. I suspect you will rue the day you voted for him, yet will praise God if I turn out to be wrong.

If he does get elected, I also expect a quick exit of much of the US wealth to other countries where one is not penalized for striving for and achieving success. A pitiful but possibly necessary move on their part. For the life of me I don't understand why someone who works hard to make a living has to share it with someone who doesn't. If you go overseas to some of the socialist-leaning countries (which I have) you will find rampant mediocrity simply because there is no incentive - even a penalty - for doing well. Do you think we would have the wealth that we do now if our forefathers had started out by saying "go out and make money so that you can give it to the slackers"??? No, their philosophy was do for yourself and reap the rewards.

Tallulah, a while back you claimed to be undecided. You could surely fool me with your posts of late. Have you been suckered in by the rhetoric that is backed by no record of performance whatsoever? Obama hasn't done anything for this country yet except run a successful campaign. What basis would you have to believe he might have your best interest in mind now? I really want to know.

Sorry. I'll get off my soap box now.

Peace, we are all Americans and I respect differences of opinion.

God bless America.

I've never been undecided. I have clearly stated a number of times that I support Obama. I don't think he is perfect and he was not my first choice for candidate, but I have faith in his vision for America.

I think the American way has always been to work hard and earn a good living, but to also help those who are less fortunate. I'd rather have my tax dollars used to help people in the US rather than give aways to foreign countries in the name for foreign policy.

I've not found CNN to be unduly bias toward Obama. MSNBC -- yes, just as Fox is unduly Republican.

My question to you is this: how likely is it that a reporter at Fox has uncovered something shocking and important about Obama, that no one else knows? It's a ratings scam.

Sorry that you can't see the obvious (to me) CNN bias toward Obama. Maybe we all see things through tinted glasses.

What is a vision without action? Where was he in the Senate with this vision? What did he DO to enact this vision in the Senate? How much courage did he show in the Senate? How many times did he vote "Present" in order to keep from taking a stand? And that is who you want to stand up to Putin, Ahmedinejad (sp?), Chavez, and Kim? Come on.

I spent a career in the military and have supported our defense in another capacity for a combined total of over 40 years. Most Americans don't have a clue as to what the world is really like. It is much more sinister than most would even guess in their wildest dreams. There is only one candidate that knows and understands that.

Has George Bush made a mess of things? You bet. Is a knee jerk reaction to Bush (rather than the person running for the seat, who ain't no George Bush) wrong? You bet. The economy will find its true value. We really need to be concerned with the radical Muslims want to build Mosques in DC and kill all who disagree with them. And you want to support a Polyanna who would think that TALK is going to influence them? Dream world thinking. A bully understands only one thing: more force and power than he possesses - and the willingness of his adversary to use it. Ask Neville Chamberlain how much good it did to talk to Hitler. Hate to say it but the world and human nature ain't changed a lick since then. You think Putin would get out of Georgia if Obama said please? Only if it was in Russia's national interest to do so (like maybe he was faced with severe economic or military consequences??)

To try to make you understand how the cow eats the cabbage is obviously fruitless. Live (and maybe die if some of our enemies get their way) in your dream world if you like.

Sorry, I don't buy the charade. As I said before, I pray to God I am wrong, but this is really scary and I haven't spoken out until now. But now I must.

You are to be commended for your commitment to our country as demonstrated by your military service. I spent 32 years working for the DoD and supporting our military. I have traveled world wide -- in fact, the only continent I have not been to is Africa; but for a while I worked African issues. I am well aware of what the world is like outside the US.

I'm sorry I can't share your view of John McCain as the answer to our nation's problems. And I will always prefer talking first -- I believe military action should be the last resort and then only when we have clear and acheivable objectives.

Your second paragraph....Neither candidate is perfect, and in my wildest dreams I can't see John McCain walking with a swagger and taking the attitude of "we're going to whip your patootie". If anyone knows the down side of war it is he. On the other hand, his opponent has no clue. It wasn't until he thought it politically expedient that he even bothered to go abroad to see for himself. Sorry, but I can't respect someone who talks big and takes baby steps, if any steps at all. He is all about getting elected and ...never mind my next comment would be negative so I won't say it.

You've aligned yourself with a facade, a hoax, an empty shell. And at the moment it appears there are many ill-advised Americans who share your view. God bless you all. America may be in for a big change indeed. I just pray it is the change that you all think it will be.

that the media is so enamoured with Obama that they have either ignored anything negative about his career, or blatantly glossed over his resume. This isn't Republican hype, or conservatives 'crying wolf'. Most of the media leans to the liberal, the flashy, the sound bites. Obama is articulate and fits the bill. He makes good news stories, and that is what TV wants.

Tallulah, you and GF appear to be very smart people. Why can't you see beyond the hype? Why are you two, of all people, so ready to jump on the Obama train? There is just NO substance there! It's all pretty rhetoric. If you truly delve into Obama's life and work over the last 20+ years, his current platform is at complete odds with history.

How can you buy into this sham? As I've said before, I understand the groupies, I understand those who will vote because of race. I do not understand those who are voting for a myth. Obama created himself to be whatever the hour calls for. His various statements during this campaign clearly show this.

Like others, I'm very afraid.

It is character and who he associates with and gets advice. We are talking about the leader of the most pwerful nation on earth and beyond his 143 days experience in the US senate ... his past associations and work he did prior to the senate is all anyone has to gone on. Every presidential candidate has been put under this review by the media, yet Obama has not. It seems odd is someone wants to look at these things that tell about his charater the american people should know. The media certainly put Palin under the microscope and she is the most popular governor in the US. McCanin should also be reviewed, which he has been ... but his character only shows a man with love of his country and always voting based on what is best for the US and not always along party lines.

It is like if anyone dares question Obama on his past they are a racist.

The comment it is the economy ... i dont necessarily disagree. But Obamas ties and advisors directly linked to the whole sub prime mess that has given us what we have today. The average american does not understand this ... and they need to. Obama sued banks that did not given enough sub prime mortgages, in the short time he was in the senate received over $42,000 from Fannie mae ... second only to Chris dodd who what there much longer. McCain received $862. It is more than a coincident that a Junior senator could receive this much. It was his ties to acorn and other groups that pushed the sub prime market.

higher taxes to redistribute wealth, trade protectionism, bigger and more intrusive federal government, censorship of conservative voices, weakening of the military, control over health care decisions of ordinary Americans, and on and on.

You see, Obama isn't something new, he doesn't have any new ideas or grand vision despite his flowering rheotoric and magical teleprompter reading (something that unfortunately fools all too many of the easily duped). He is a typical, run of the mill liberal and will enact the same old ideas that have never worked. And I am not just talking about LBJ or Jimmy Carter. I am talking Herbert Hoover who turned what the rest of the world called a depression in 1929 into a Great Depression in the U.S. by raising taxes and impeding free markets.

A book recommendation for those of you who think all this debate is something new or somehow different. It is called "Free Markets, Free Men" by Fredric Bastiat (1801-1850). He was a politician, economist free market thinker during the many French Revolutions (yes, sadly there were several...those French!). You think we are talking about something new? Read that book and you will realize that we continue to ignore history and are thus doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. It opened my eyes to the truth of government and free markets.

Hound,

I am part of the top 1% of wage earners, who has worked hard, sacrificed, planned, and been very benevolent to those in need. I am indeed proud of my achievements which have been gained by God's grace. I give away half of my professional production to insurance company write-offs, yet we have a healthcare "problem" that people cry for the gov't to cure. Be wary, you gave the gov't access to the mortgage industry and what happened. Give them access to the healthcare dollar and just see what corruption is spawned. I carry clothes in the back of my BMW to give to hand to the needy off of highway exits. I have had them thrown back at me because they wanted money. I hire workers at home and at the lake and pay well, feed and cloth them as well.

I could go on and on and on about how the top 1% of wage earners like myself are already, in Obama's terms, "neighborly", or in Biden's terms "patriotic". But nothing more needs to be stated than the top 1% of wage earners ALREADY pay 67% of the tax burden. I will not become any more neighborly. I will not become any more patriotic. My charitable contributions will decrease. I will never support a candidate like Obama who is, in my opinion, a malignant cancer. I will work less, make the same amount of money since I will save it in tax, vacation more, and not contribute to Obama's vision of America. I will lay off workers who will not be needed. Many in the healthcare community will do the same, or are already doing it. He cannot assume that the top 5 % of wage earners will work harder in order to redistribute it to those who don't pay any taxes at all. My children will be well taken care of and share my opinion. It is time that the "middle class", of which I was one for the majority of my life, , speak with one united voice, and quit relying on other people for their sustenance. Tell the Democratic party that you are not for sale. Until then, get used to a degree of class warfare that this country has never seen which will only delay the economic recovery that we so deparately want for our children's sake.

So when Obama wins will you be leaving the US for the managed health care of Canada or perhaps the socialized health care of England?

I don't think you can blame Obama for the deplorable state of the health care system in this country. And I'm sorry that you don't think you should have to pay taxes. That's what's gone wrong in this country -- everyone thinks of what is good for them, and not what is going to make this country stronger. I guess you'd just like those annoying poor and lower middle class people to go away and not bother you with their petty little needs like affordable health care?

Are you KIDDING ME!!!! CNN is by far more biased! It is a joke how much some people pull the wool over their eyes and choose not to see these things. Some, or almost all of their news correspondents have blatantly lied on television about serious issues concerning Obama. The problem is that most people will not research these things for themselves and will take what these people say as the truth. It is pitiful. Fox news is obviously more right wing but you can't fault them for airing a program that shows the FACTS about Obama that everyone keeps ignoring. It is scary how much people will overlook to have a president who is running on a "Change" platform. Even though the "Change" he is talking about is NOT what this country needs right now. When unemployment is at its highest rate in years we do NOT need to be adding more taxes to the people who create the most jobs. It is Economics 101. Look back at history and see what happens when you increase taxes on the top 5%.... it has been done before and DOES NOT WORK. Sad.

I strongly agree with Swimmer ... You should be ashamed of yourself Tal for twisting his words around. My family is also in the top % of wage earners and have tried to do our best to give back to our community and country, not only in the form of financial contributions but also our time. We have built schools and donated for numerous other local and federal projects. We have given our time to help and involve ourselves in organizations like the special olympics. Please do not tell me that I need to pay more taxes in order to be patriotic as that is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard. All that I can say is look at the differences between the two candidates on every issue. Then look to history to see what has happened each time taxes have been increased or decreased. Look to see what happened in Canada to their health care system.

There is not one country that anyone can point to where socialized healthcare is the envy of other countries or a leader in healthcare. And all those countries are much smaller. What makes these foolish liberals to thing we can do it in the US without destroying the BEST healthcare system in the world that is the envy of every other country. That does not mean we should not address how everyone has access to medical coverage .... but socializing it is not the answer. What government program can we point to that we can say they do it better than free enterprise?

Why is it that people from other countries that has socialized healthcare come to this country when it is something serious. Because we have the best doctors and best medicines. So when they nationaize medicines, who will develop new ones when they eliminate the economic incentives. who will become doctors when the amount they can earn is controlled by the government.

I used to travel to asia on business ... Korea has national health plan (south Korea as a country is about the size of Florida) and people wait weeks to see a doctor and it is basically a clinic. Forget emergency rooms unless you are dying.

But the liberals think we can have our government run this successfully????

So let me understand your way of thinking....Not only is it neighborly or patriotic for me to pay in xs of 6 figures in fed, state, medicare taxes, but it would, in your words, also "make our country stronger" if the top 1% payed, say 80% of the tax burden. Just what is fair in your book? Deplorable state of healthcare? We have the highest life expectancy rates on the planet. Just because it is expensive, does not make it deplorable. Look at managed care profits if you want to see the real villian. The dirty little secret is that there really is no problem in healthcare that requires government intervention. It's just a ruse to get the fed gov'ts hands on more of your life and 25% of our GDP.

And I don't really know where to start regarding your comment about the annoying lower and middle class. Did you not read a thing I wrote? I won't toot my horn, but I've probably assisted more lower and middle class folks without insurance for free in the middle of the night than you have your entire life.

I'm sorry, I misspoke. It's not the health care system that is deplorable. It is the fact that only those of us who can afford health care can get access to it is deplorable. And yes, I agree with you that the insurance companies are to blame, not the medical professionals who render the care.

I don't know how much is enough. Maybe it is a question of reallocation of what is already being collected. But with a steadily increasing national debt, I don't see how this country will be able to service the debt and do some of the social programs that need to be done. The lower incomes can't afford health insurance, so if we don't provide it to them, how will they get it? And I don't necessarily think that it needs to be a government run program, but as you have pointed out, I don't think you can trust the insurance companies.

I doubt I am in the top 1% of incomes, but my income is generous. I've invested and I have a sizable nest egg to insure my future. So within my own mind, I ask myself would it really hurt if I paid more taxes if I knew it went to helping others?
I guess my answer to myself is "no". Suppose your property tax was significantly increased, but you knew that the money was going to help your community? Would you feel differently then?

Most of us have no problem writing a check when a need is shoved in our faces -- the victims of the tsunami, the victims of Katrina, starving children in Africa. I guess my point is that similar things are going on every day in this country, but they are not in our faces. That's why I wouldn't mind paying more in taxes.

If you assume that your neighborly increase in tax dollars would automatically go to those in need, you must not have noticed the pork that went into the 700 billion bailout bill. A simple bill that was meant to avert an economic catastrophe (it didn't btw) could not even pass without billions of dollars of special earmarks that were lobby generated. You trust the gov't far too readily with your and my money.

When I was making less that 20K/yr in the 1980's, I had BC/BS insurance. Supported a family no less. Owned safe, reliable vehicles. Saved. No credit cards. Paid my bills on time. How, you ask?
No one told me that I was only allowed to work 40 Hrs/Week.

Another aside, do you know how to eliminate the burden of gov't social programs? (These programs should be the responsibility of the churches in my opinion, many of which have abdicated their responsibility). Eliminate the birthright citizenship illusion that contradicts what the 14 amendment was written for. If you are in this country illegally, your children should be labeled illegal immigrants as well. Illegal immigrants who have children in the US should not have the privilege of those children sucking at the teat of the taxpayer as US citizens. Wonder why this has not been brought up in the debates?
We all know the reason why......The more the gov't is seen as the great safety net of the masses, the more appealing socialism becomes. Stark differences in your and my solutions to the problems of our day. I don't trust gov't for much more than providing for our defense, and you and Obama would give them the keys to the vault.

In other words "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need"?

Little did you know, but that is pure Marxist philosophy Hound, look it up.......

I'm familiar with Marxism. Is it "survival of the fittest" that you believe?

But, what is the solution? I would love to see faith based initiatives take off in communities, but it hasn't so far. There are wonderful stories about communities and churchs stepping up to the plate, but it's not enough. So should it be property taxes that are increased to fund communities to provide these services?

I think a clear policy on immigration would be great and I agree in priniciple with your belief that children of illegal immigrants should be illigal immigrants too. But what about those lower income and no income children and families that are here legitmately? What about them?

And if it's a choice between a government sponsored safety net and no safety net, then I'll vote for their being one. The government's not perfect, but sometimes it's all we've got.

How would you fix the problem?

The World Bank defines poverty as earning $1/day
Minimum wage earners in the US earn >40X as much as the worlds poorest
There are >320 million who earn $1 or less per day, greater than the entire US population

Can you name one democratic program that has succeeded in getting people off the poverty roles? I'll give you the best one - capitalism. No one single man engineered economic system has gotten more people out of poverty than this. This country is a shining example of that. You make it sound that the lower income and poor are new. The poor have been among us for centuries. The cure in my view - Freedom and Hard Work. But you will never hear from a lib that pulling yourself up by the bootstrap is a strategy because it stresses individualty. And we know that individuality among Dems won't garner them political power. It is sad that people can be used so brazenly and get so little in return.

Also, look at the FairTax if you want a solution that will put more money in the hands of the "poor" that you feel so sorry for........

Senator Barack Obama, at a recent campaign stop, had this exchange with a plumber, regarding taxes.

It speaks for itself.

Plumber: Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn’t it?

Obama: It’s not that I want to punish your success, I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they’ve got the chance at success too … I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.

So Hound, can you seriously support someone like this who essentially says that the harder that you and I work, the more other people catch up? I ask, why work?

Doc, it is futile to use logic and reason. The points you and MartiniMan (and some by water_watcher as well - although he gets carried away at times) are dead-on and as yet unanswered by any logical or reasonable response.

If you are going to quote the World Bank, then quote them honestly:

When estimating poverty worldwide, the same reference poverty line has to be used, and expressed in a common unit across countries. Therefore, for the purpose of global aggregation and comparison, the World Bank uses reference lines set at $1.25 and $2 per day (2005 Purchasing Power Parity terms). Using improved price data from the latest (2005) round of the International Comparison Program, new poverty estimates released in August 2008 show that about 1.4 billion people in the developing world (one in four) were living on less than $1.25 a day in 2005, down from 1.9 billion (one in two) in 1981. The new international poverty line of $1.25 a day at 2005 prices is the mean of the national poverty lines for the 10-20 poorest countries of the world. While the revised estimate is significantly higher than earlier estimates of less than a billion people living under $1 a day in 1993 prices, the developing world as a whole remains on track to meet the first Millennium Development Goal to halve extreme poverty from its 1990 levels by 2015. However, poverty is more pervasive than earlier estimated, and efforts to fight it will have to be redoubled, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. Also, lags in survey data availability mean that the new estimates do not yet reflect the potentially large impact on poor people of rising food and fuel prices since 2005.

They are talking about poverty in developing nations, not trying to live in the US.

But, I understand your politics. You belong to the "I've got mine" school. I suspect that you never had to pull yourself up by your bootstraps.
You have much to fear from Obama.

So you are saying that it is harder to be poor in America than it is in the rest of the world. C'mon now Hound. Even you cannot be that naive. The fact is that freedom, hard work and capitalism have freed more people from the ranks of poverty than any socialist, Marxist agenda and you know it.

"I got mine" comment? Where on earth did that come from? No inheritance or luck here. Individual work ethic, wise choices, sacrifice, and the grace of God has allowed me to be in the position I am. A position whereby I can give extraordinarily to charities and organizations that value me for who I am and what I have become. Same can be said for many on this forum who happen to be in a position to be able to give freely out of their abundance. We just happen to like the ability to give of ourselves on our terms, and not to a clearinghouse.

Yours is sadly a politics of envy.......

I have no envy at all. None. Seems like when you and others here can't think of anything else to say, you have to make some remark about "class envy". As though people such as yourselves would be something to envy.

I find that your comments on this thread reek of not individual envy, but certainly of a divisive class envy that has never benefited anyone. History shows that it is in the best interests of the rich AND poor to work TOGETHER. The Obama message that some CEO's make more in 10 minutes than an American worker makes in a year is true but how is it, as he states, unfair? It is a classic example of fomenting class envy that even MLK denounced. The simple fact is that both groups need each other to succeed, but when you attempt to redistribute what is rightfully one groups earnings and GIVE to the other by force, you will lose all cooperation.

Afraid of Obama? Don't think so. He will be but a blip on my radar screen. I certainly am more fearful of what will happen to the low-middle to lower income levels under a liberal administration. History again shows that the people that benefited the most from the Reagan tax cuts were the lower income groups, not the wealthy. You should be careful what you wish for, because it just may come to pass and not be a pretty site.

Try watching something besides CNN and MSNBC and I'm sure you will see it too. I saw it on FOX News just a little while ago. You and your worthlsess husband allways fall back to the 'you have to prove it' excuse. For you to challange Doc like that shows how simple minded you are. But you liberals always have problem with facts.

IT HAPPENED!! Quit calling folks liars. Try doing a little research of your own.

I am posting the video, but I am sure it is fake since it comes though FOX.
