I voted Democrat because
I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want.
I've decided to marry my horse and my dog.
I voted Democrat because
I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are
obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas
at 15% isn't.
I voted Democrat because
I believe the government will do a better job of
spending the money I earn than I would.
I voted Democrat because
Freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.
I voted Democrat because
When we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what
they are doing because they now think we are good people.
I voted Democrat because
I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local
police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.
I voted Democrat because
I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if
I don't start driving a Prius.
I voted Democrat because
I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.
I voted Democrat because
I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care,
education, and Social Security benefits.
I voted Democrat because
I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for
themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to
the government for redistribution as the democrats see fit.
I voted Democrat because
I believe liberal judges need to rewrite The Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.
I voted Democrat because
My head is so firmly planted up my back side that it is unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.

I voted Democratic (this time) because I didn't want 4 more years of a war that is unwinable. And because I was treated like I was too stupid to see what was really going on, and I was tired of being told that black is white and having that just repeated to me as though being told repeatedly would some how make it true.
And because I didn't think we could hide our head in the sand anymore about Medicare and SS and that tax cuts would solve all our problems. And I didn't want some over-aged man, who had no new ideas, and with a hairline temper continuing the unilaterist ways that we've been following for the last 8 years.
But, most importantly, I got tired of having someone's Christian agenda shoved down my throat, so that politicians could get elected. It's not about "Christian values" really, it's about money.

Hit the wrong button again, mea culpa.. Guess I know what you voted for.. 'change' because of the stuff you didn't like or agree with.. guess it's a valid vote.. but reread you last post.. Is there any principle you voted for, or just stuff you don't like because things are tough?? Is there one single principle you voted for that holds hope for a better future?? just curious.. lol..

You know, that's a really interesting question. I would have to say that in the case the answer was no, unless you count transparency in gov't as a principle. My government career left me with a feeling that government ought to be transparent at every level. I don't think the citizens ought to ever accept "it's this way because I said so" as an answer from their government.
I sincerely felt our country was on the wrong track. While I'm still basically embrace Republican principles, I'm waiting for Republican leadership that can lead us forward and I'm not seeing it.

You won't get it with this administration. Did you hear about the pledges the SecDef forced military staff to sign about the budget process? Not a good thing. You also won't get it with the current leadership in Congress ala the secret heath care meetings.
Hound, I completely agree with you about the abysmal Republican leadership but it boggles my mind that you sold your fiscal conservative principals down the road simply because you were mad a Bush? That is truly cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Now we are being told that the unfunded deficit for social security and medicare over the next 75 years is $69 trillion (see the recent GAO report)!!!!! Yes, that's "trillion". And yet you now want to turn over 1/5th of our economy over to a government that has already been a disaster with over $1 trillion in new debt just next year alone!?!?!? I just don't get someone that allows her dislike of a President to make a voting decision that has such long term negative consequences for the country.
You can argue all day long that McCain would have been just as bad but I adamantly believe you are dead wrong about that. While he wasn't my first choice, on fiscal issues he is a d@mm sight better than Obama and would have been a moderating force....... I know what's done is done and the votes are counted but it would go a long way to hear you say you are deeply concerned about the fiscal insanity that is going on in DC right now. Government may have a role in alleviating the problems with health insurance but they are creating a false crisis in order to implement a socialist agenda and we need to speak up. And the stimulus, which many of us rightly pointed out was not simulative is not working and yet they are using their own failures as an excuse for more failures. It is mind boggling but that's what you get with a sycophantic media that has abrogated their responsibility......

As pointed out USA Today the Obama administration will not reveal who got stimulus contracts. Methinks the truth will resemble typical Chicago politics (i.e., cronyism and fraud). So much for transparency.

we three appear to agree, at least in part. GOP leadership is MIA and so far I am also, relative to donations.. Held my nose and voted for McCain for the sake of grand kids.. Can't be certain GW kept us free of another domestic terrorist attack for his last 7 years (old nuculear deterrance debate -- know if it works/does not work only if it fails) but one can hold an opinion. I agree with Cheney.. intell services have been seriously handicapped and we are less safe as a result..

I think Cheney is overstating the case. I don't think we are safer, and I don't think we will ever be safer. We've been lucky that we haven't had another attack, and frankly, I think it's primarily because of beefed up border security and general awareness of what to look for.
Remember, there was one field agent that noticed an increase in middle east aviation students and he tried to let people know and no one paid any attention to it. Bet that wouldn't happen now.
I think the Bush Administration was right to pour money into intelligence and seek to rebuild our humit sources. The Clinton Administation did us a huge disservice.
I have no real idea if torture (or "enhanced" interrogation)on the whole got us more actionable intelligence. I'm sure it did in a couple of cases, but I really think that you get more from a well developed humit network.

Hound: Here is why I can prove conclusively that you are wrong. Look at the history of terror attacks during the 1990's (Clinton administration). WTC 1993, Kohbar Towers 1996, USS Coles 1998, etc. After 911 not one single attack in seven years in the U.S. And I hope you respond that it is because they were all in Afghanistan and Iraq fighting our military. My answer would be "Exactly!"
