I have permission from Bruce to point out to all forum participants that Hound was given admin privileges some time ago that allows her to delete any post she deems offensive. She is apparently wielding that power quite often with me, especially when I point out how she holds all of us to a different standard than she holds herself. Of course none of the rest of us, regardless of our political views, have that luxury. The latest post of mine she removed was when I objected to her accusing me of being the reason other posters have gotten nasty again. And this in a thread in which I did not even participate. Not one single comment until she slammed me. I have received emails from a number of forum participants that also object to her being able to delete posts she does not like but the rest of us have to live with whatever someone says about us. And you would be surprised at who some of those that are incensed about this. Read this quickly because she will probably delete it.

Just heard from Bruce that she no longer has this privilege. She is now in the same boat as us and can either decide to participate as a regular plebe like the rest of us or sign off. Thank you Bruce for doing that.

I had known for some time that she had this privilege...never thought that it was proper. I'm glad Bruce has done the right thing.

I call it censorship. My question for Bruce...other than you as the Webmaster does anyone else now have this authority?

In some ways I understand the original rationale and Bruce doesn't have time to constantly police the forum. Seems it is no longer an issue and no longer necessary that she have this authority and I too am glad he made the change. He looked at the posts she deleted and realized her authority was being abused. As he said to me in my email, no one is forced to be on this forum and can leave at any time if they no longer enjoy it.

I discussed this with Bruce this morning, and in no way did he say to me that he thought I abused any authority.  He said he thought that MM was wrong to be calling people out.  I have expressed my view to Bruce about certain posters on this forum; however, he is the forum owner and as such, it's up to him to make decisions about forum adminstrators.  I have had limited forum administrator abilities for several years.  I have rarely used them, except when I felt someone was making a personal attack on me.  I never asked to be a forum administrator, so I'm certainly not going to complain about not being one.  Bruce does not routinely monitor any of the forums, but will review situations if they are brought to his attention.  In my experience, he has usually deleted the posts that anyone complains about.  He doesn't "censor" the forum.  I don't think I am/have been the only administrator on this forum.  So you may want to ask MM or Bruce who the others are.

I will no longer be a part of this forum.  It is not sour grapes, nor is it because I'm not a forum administrator anymore, although I'm sure that several people on here will have quite a bit to say on the subject, and some will celebrate my departure.  I'm okay with that.  For some time, I have thought that the level of discourse on this particular forum is reflective of the hate and discontent that seems to be pervasive in our society right now.  As personal attacks have become part and parcel of the political landscape, so seems to follow the discussions on this board.  And I am committed to promoting civility on a day to day basis in my personal life because I think it is important to treat others with respect and dignity.

With my best wishes.

I was not implying that Bruce is censoring the Forum as it is his Forum. Rather, when you Hound can delete a post about yourself you don't like I consider that censorship. You don't seem to appreciate or understand that using the authority to delete posts without anyone knowing is just wrong. You should have posted "I am removing your post MM". I assume the authority was granted before the ignore feature was added. Why not just put MM on ignore? I don't think any of his posts warranted being deleted. This is the first time i have disagreed with you and wish you would just let it go and continue as a participant.

GF, That was the first mature post I have seen from you.  Well done.

I also don't want to see Hound go.  I have disagreed many times with her, but also agreed many times. I enjoyed the intellectual debate and her honest and truely independent point of view.

Hound, I understand why you deleted them since now I know why some of mine also disappeared.  I agree things have sometimes gotten out of hand and gone too far ... but even though I have never met you, i would call you a friend.

Let it go and just participate in the debate.

Hound, I tried to say this 47 ways but they all come the same, and it hurts because I am a rational person, and in spite of that, find myself agreeing with GF when he says "wish you would let it go and continue as a participant". I hope you rethink.

WW, I think if you looked at my posts that she deleted you would not agree that they were any more objectionable than a great number of her posts over the years. But the point here is that she abused a special privilege that she had that very few people knew about when something hit a little too close to home. And if Bruce thought my posts were so inappropriate he would most certainly not have taken away her admin privileges. From what I understand they were given to her for very good reasons but those reasons no longer exist and now, as GF put it so well, it is censorship. enough said on this. She is welcome to participate and I hope she does because she does have something important to add to the conversation. But she has to be willing to take her own medicine like the rest of us poor saps that expose ourselves to the abuse.

Yes, and for full disclosure their names are Maverick and Ulysses E. McGill. So if you pick a verbal fight with either of them, you've now officially been put on notice. LOL The intent of moderators is to solve problems and they serve their purpose (ie: duplicate posts, crazy poster). I don't fault Hound for deleting, just hate that she felt it was needed. Probably couldn't resist the temptation. I don't want to sit here and judge anybody. I'm not going to try to figure out who threw the first punch... We all have opinions and political opinions can get pretty intense. Debate can be civil, but when too intense, it easily gets personal. So we go several years with no problems and what have we learned? Maybe moderators shouldn't participate in controversial discussion? That may be difficult to avoid. Unfortunately, that is the reason I don't participate in these discussions. I love to talk politics though if you catch me on a pier with a beer. Bruce
