Who is Catherine? Did she just move here from California or the North West? I say this as most of the Nut job, tree hugging, squirrel squeezing PETA types, don't usually post on the site. I assume there is an agenda here, or should I say hidden agenda. I find it hard to believe that She , if it is a she, spends most of the day looking at Google Earth for possible infractions in and around the lake. Hey Catherine, I saw a fish crap in the lake, call out the FBI !!!! Am I the only one that thinks she is a little over the top? That is all.

I'm no "tree hugger," but I am for responsible management and respect for the land and nature. Not at ALL costs, but at all reasonable costs.I firmly believe that laws and regulations should always apply equally to all. That seldom happens, especially around here, but I can't seem to move past the thought that no one is above the law.

Incidently, the "Cathrine" of which you speak and read about has gone on to a better place. She was a fine, unassuming woman who "got" the lake. That is why her name is being thrown around by those who wish to use every advantage possible to turn a profit. Were she still alive, she woul most definitely sue to keep her name from being associated with the very things she stood so firmly against. She truly loved the lake, and she despised those who saw it only as a profit center, and stood against them even after she had passed on.

Incidently, I have found all of the quarrys, dumps, etc, in my walks around the lake (I walk to see nature at every chance I get). As I come across them, I either mark them in my GPS, or make a mental note of where they are, then look at aerial photos later. Its just easier to show people a picture of a dumpsite and the way it kills the land rather than say "they dumped shingles and paint near Willow Point" and have the full impact register.

I have since learned that the dumpsite I posted just outside Willow Point has a permit for "temporary storage." If it is "temporary," why do they bury it in the ground?

I think Catherine rocks. I am no tree hugger either...born and raised in the great State of Alabama and I vote republican at every election. What catherine is doing is great...keep it up and keep them homest!

I am sure that Catherine does have an agenda; that agenda is to keep the lake as good as it can be for as long as possible. But if this forum hold true to form, then Catherine will soon give up her mission-- at least this on-line aspect of it-- because of reactions such as yours. And then, a few years down the road, people will once again be complaining about the same things she brings up now, only by then it will be too late.

Just look at some of the arguments now, and compare them to those being made in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Back then, we had people like BAJ, LakeLover, TOLL, Goober and SLM (among others; those are the ones I can recall off the top of my head) bringing up issues that they felt warranted attention; I doubt you can find a recent post by any of them. But the things they were posting about-- over-development, irresponsible development, mismanagement, and the ecological implications that come with those problems-- are mentioned quite often these days.

If people had listened THEN, we might not be facing some of the problems we have NOW. Likewise, if we listen to Catherine NOW, we might avoid some problems LATER.

Unfortunately, I have little faith that people will listen now. Foresight is not one of the great strengths of the Lake Martin community. (But keep trying, Catherine. Some of us are listening.)

Mythbuster...I have been here from the start and you are exactly right. I am not as bothered by it as you because I think those folks simply stopped posting here. Catherine is part os a vast yet non vocal majority. The loud mouths on this board will not stop Catherine I am confident. It is nice when reasonable folks like us defend her but she will continue her fight as many of us here will.

Bravo - as a "nut job" from the Pacific Northwest I have a great interest in the future of the lake and applaud Catherine's efforts. I have been berated by Shirt and others before - don't worry and keep trying.

I've lived on this lake for six years now. But newish to these forums. Don't know who these various peoples are. But I can say this. History is a good guide. Areas that failed to implement planning and zoning have all come to regret it. Developers have but one agenda, to develope and return profits to their investors.

Shirt ,What have you got in to. I will have to agree with you. We have too many people running around taking care of other peoples affairs. The lake, is now, has been and will comtinue one of Alabamas best kept secrets. We do not need any knights in shinning armor to rescue it . I only wish that some of these people had to try to work under some of the rules and regulations that our govt has put in place. Between the unnecessary rules, regulations, insurance, fuel, lawyers and labor the small businessman has got a tough road to travel.
