I've wondered where you got your internet handle. Is from "Bankhead", the falls, the river or something else? I really would be interested in knowing.

Talullah is my Walker Coonhound's name. We named her for Talullah Bankhead who was from Alabma. I found her in a cemetary where someone had abandoned her last summer when she was about 7 weeks old. Whoever abandoned her really messed up, because she's a really fine dog, and I suspect that if she was trained, she'd be a great hunting dog.

Thanks, good story. Now I wonder where Talullah Bankhead got her name. Do I remember correctly that her father was a US Senator.

Feb did some research and Talullah means "running water". He seemed to think that Talullah Bankhead had some Indian connection. Don't know about her father though.

"Bankhead came from a powerful Democratic political family in the South in general and Alabama in particular. Her father was the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1936-1940 (in the 74th, 75th, and 76th Congresses), immediately preceding Sam Rayburn. She was the niece of Senator John H. Bankhead II and granddaughter of Senator John H. Bankhead. Bankhead herself was a Democrat, albeit one of a more liberal stripe than the rest of her family."

Thanks Hound...that also explains the origin of the Talullah River and Falls in extreme NE GA.
Thanks JaG...I thought she had some political background. Ive also heard she was one of David O. Selznicks early choices for the part of Scarlett O'hara.
