I've been hearing a lot about Yates Lake lately (starts just below Martin Dam). Anyone know anything about it?

Looks like a valid lake. I found that they have the same looking website as this one. Although there must not be any homes on this lake or else no one is involved in the Yates forum. The lake martin "General" forum has 32,000+ entries in it. Lake Yates "General" forum has 0.

The picture on the main Yates website shows a boat crossing in front of what appears to be a bright red sunset. Under closer examination this isn't a sunset but rather Cat Boat speeding quickly away into the distance maybe?

Are there homes on lake Yates? I bet you can get a lot more home for the money down there huh? I found their website is:

http://yates.uslakes.info/

Let me know if anyone else has any information on this lake.

There are now two post on there. I just went to it. The Lake Martin Forum Family has now taken over yet another virgin Forum. Go check it out

Thanks for the update. I walked a few lots there this weekend. We saw a few, very nice homes located on the Tallapoosa side. It looked to be mostly undeveloped at this point. Looks to be very nice lake.

I understand that, unlike Martin, the lake doesn't fluctuate much between winter and summer.

How big is it?

Lake Martin = 40,000 acres
Lake Yates = 1980

I don't think Feb or Cat could get up to full speed on this lake?

I have a friend that lives on Yates. I know for a fact that it isn't the greatest lake for swimming. BURRRRRRRRRRR!!!! The water comes from the bottom of LM from the dam and it is ALWAYS cold even in August! Considering the cost of property on LM, it may be a deal if you were looking to be on a lake somewhere.

Very very cold all year, but a nice little lake. Most lots I've seen are very steep.

Yates is what is referred to by locals as the " middle pond ". Getting up toward the dam you have to be very carefull to avoid rocks and the bottom. It has several creeks running into it and is a honeyhole for fishing. Probably the best kept secret of the Tallapoosa river.
