I have a home near Pleasure point. Is DSL available via AT&T there? if not, does anyone know of any options?

You can go here and enter your phone number and it will show if it is available.

I am located off Highway 90 and Highview Lane just down from Chimney Rock. All we were able to get for so-called "high speed" was satellite through Hughesnet (formerly Direcway). But...it is slow. Not much difference from dial up in terms of speed. Not really a good option.

I'm not sure about the Martin area, but I have been helping a friend who lives in the sticks try to figure out what to do for high-speed internet. I suggested to him that he try a mobile broadband card from one of the cell phone companies (Sprint, Nextel, etc). You can get unlimited plans for around $60. That's not as cheap as DSL or cable, but it should provide better service than satellite, assuming you can get a signal down there by the lake. I have not used the service myself, so I don't actually know how good it is. Maybe someone else has. Good luck!
