I'm thinking about doing an asphalt driveway. Does anyone have a recommendation? Our place is in the Sandy Creek/Dadeville area. Thanks for your help in advance.

Gary Ingram used to do driveways but not sure now...he does so much contracting for DOT..

Thanks 'Foot....I've contacted them and they gave me a bid. I want to get at least 3 more bids. I've done concrete drives in the past but have never done asphalt. I need to check pricing to see if Ingram is in the ballpark.

Over existing asphalt?

Crush and run....

How does crush hold up on a fairly steep drive? Does it wash out or erode easily? I have it in a flat parking area and have been really pleased.

...will not work (unless there is some trick I am unaware of)....I wasted 2 or 3 k before I got smart and went with concrete...mine would probably be considered  more than "fairly" steep...but erosion will take it's toll if there is  considerable runoff....

'Foot....how does concrete compare price wise to asphalt? I'm trying to determine which would be the least expensive to install.

When I had the work done (10-12 years ago), the asphalt bid was $4400 (Ingram) and the concrete bid was $10,000+  (Henderson Coker).

I got three estimates for concrete. Henderson and ocker wanted more than the other two combined and showed up three weeks after the original appointment. You might want to consider tar and gravel also. Will fall in the middle of crush and run and concrete in cost and fiction. Mine is on hill and has held up well. It is a fairly easy patch if ever needed too. Another tip when dealing with concrete. Calculate the yardage then go out of the immediate area and contact concrete contractors and get a price per yard. Don't mention the lake so as to avoid any "lake premium" that some try to charge. Good luck.

If you are going over existing asphalt that's alligatoring in spots or has worn thin but the base is still good I would recommend using a Perma Flex application. That way you won't see the "gator" coming back through your new asphalt. If you don't, better remove the old asphalt, stabilize the base and put down the new layer

Well BigFoot you win the prize for getting quotes from the two most outrageously expensive contractors on the lake.  I got a quote for some work from Ingram and he quoted $22,000.  I got the job done to the same specs for $4,200.  Also, used Henderson and Cokers concrete crew when they were off for less than half of H & C's quote.  Not bragging, just be aware of what goes on around the lake.

Wix....who did the asphalt work for you and how long ago was that?
