Hey Council Rock. Here is an article in todays Washington Post I question. I am not of the opinion it is unbiased. I think it was a cheap shot at the President.

What is your respected opinion? Please jump in au67.

Hey FEB
What would you regard as a cheap shot? W’s “flip-flopping” sure makes me have a little better opinion of him. It has been hard for me to understand that how any man could be in office for six years and not make a mistake and refuse to reverse courses on anything. Whatever his reason for changing courses, I applaud it. Unchecked authority tends to lead to corruption and decisions that may not be in the best interest of our country, or a certain company, our your local city or even Lake Martin. I personally don’t ever want to see one party control the executive, legislative and judicial legs of our government. Of course, I’m not naive enough to believe it won’t happen again though.

Feb, let me be real honest here. I occasionally read articles from the following mainstream (liberal) media newspapers: The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlanta Journal Constitution and The St. Louis Post Dispatch. Very rarely would I consider them to be unbiased, even with sports news. Most of their journalists lack the objectivity to simple report the news but seem to always have to interject their personal views and the obligatory left wing slant. That's okay for the editorial page, but it does't belong elsewhere. Additionally, I feel the same way about television news. If I only watched network news and read the above listed newspapers, I would be thoroughly convinced that Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were the greatest presidents of all time and George Bush is the worst. I would also be convinced that terrorism doesn't really exist, and that 9/11 was just an isolated incident. I'd also be convinced that if we would just get out of Iraq, we'd all live happily ever after. But that's not really true, because global warming is really the biggest issue we face and if we don't do something within the next few weeks, we are all doomed!

But since I get the majority of my news from other sources, I'm of the opinion Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were the worst presidents of all time and George Bush has been a good president but certainly not great. I'm also of the opinion that terrorism is the most important issue facing this country and that global warming is just another doomsday scare that will ultimately be added the following list of calamities that didn't happen:
1) "Silent Spring"
2) "Population Bomb"
3) "End of Fossil Fuels"
4) “Acid Rain”
5) "New Ice Age"
6) "Y2K Catastrophe"
7) “The Ozone Hole”
8) “2006 To Be Worst Hurricane Season Ever”

Having said all this, the article you linked in the Washington Post is not that bad. There are many of us conservatives that don't agree on many things that President Bush has done, and this apparent change on Iran is one of them. If negotiation will solve these middle east problems, why in the world do we still have an Israel/Palestine problem? Those peace talks have been going on since President Carter was in office!

the editorial impressed me as "filler". A very weak effort at discrediting the current regime.

I don't think the intent of this particular editorial was to discredit GWB. However, there were a few very worrisome points made that were very subtle in nature that need to be taken seriously.

1. GWB is all about legacy now. And no matter what happens in Afghanistan, Iraq, or the war on terror, I believe history will judge GWB based upon whether or not he kept the middle east nuclear free. I think GWB knows this and you will see capitulation toward Iran just like we saw in N. Korea to the dismay of his conservative base. Unfortunately, Iran will play GWB like a violin and not only keep its' nukes, but will have the economic restrictions removed as well.

2. There is no difference (except from the fringes) between the Repubs and Dems at this moment in time.

3. Iran and not Isreal is the real enemy of Arab states now. And in order to keep the oil flowing from Saudi Arabia, we have been told to engage Iran diplomatically. George caved to the real puppet masters. Energy independence cannot come soon enough.

The only major concern I have which was not mentioned in the thread is our National Debt. I hope everyone saw what the Comptroler General had to say tonight on 60 Minutes. It certainly appears to be our worse enemy, and none of our elected officials of either party want to touch it with a 10 ft. pole.

I think enough is enough, and I should cease these type post for a bit. All the Best to all of you. Hope it is beginning to feel like Spring inb Alabama. .

The water is rising, the chameleons (my wife prefers to call them lizards) are out, the birds are chirping, and I saw an armadillo actually make it across the road. Signs of spring are so invigorating.

Chameleons are found mostly in the tropical regions of Africa and Madagascar. There are a few non-native populations that can be found in Hawaii, California and Texas, but no true Chameleons are found anywhere else in the U.S., which you probably know includes Alabama.

The one trait that true Chameleons are known for is the ability to change colors. One of our local lizards, the Anole, also has that ability, and because of that many people mistakenly call them Chameleons. But, those people are wrong.

Besides Anoles, the other lizards found in the Lake Martin area are the Fence Lizard, the Mole Skink, the Five-Lined Skink, the BroadHeaded Skink, the Ground Skink, the Race Runner and the Glass Lizard. The Glass Lizard is legless, which leads many ignorant people to believe that it is a snake.

Thanks for the clarification. We have lots of Anoles. We also have what I guess are Race Runners, since they are extremely fast and extremely ugly (slimy, blue/black/gray ugly). But then again, they may be from the infamous Skink family.

My source says that the fast, gray/blue/black lizards you see are almost assuredly Fence Lizards, and that they are anything but slimy; in fact, they have sharply-keeled scales, so they feel a little like sandpaper.

Skinks look slimy, but really aren't; they just have smooth, shiny scales.

And Racerunners are even faster than the fence lizards, but seldom seen.

any cleaning and cooking tips for these little critters. Maybe a Gumbo of types? I have heard you can harvest the tails several times. LOL

Thanks, I did learn a lot.
