Kinda of nuts when the dems were critical of Laura Bush and nancy Regan as being out of touch and Michelle is in $600 tennis shoes and carrying a $6,000 purse.

It's that vast left wing conspiracy at work again... LOL
Maybe it was a $6000 purse and they discounted it to $900 for her. I understand that they used to do that for Nancy Reagan, knowing that the public watched the way she dressed.
Nancy only dressed in designer wear (and was a perfect "sample" size), but I think both Laura Bush and Michelle dressed like a lot of women do -- some high end stuff, some lower end stuff.
And while I wouldn't pay $6000 for anything other than an Hermes Birkin bag, she'll probably have the clutch for a long time. Not the kind of thing that wears out.

pay $6,000 for a handbag even if you could afford it? Maybe its a guy thing but I can't imagine spending that much on an accessory and can't imagine my wife would either but who knows. I can't get her out of Wal Mart and into Target, let alone Macy's.
You are right about Nancy Reagan. She was an elegant dresser and if I were a designer I would give her any dress she wanted just to be seen in it. She probably got a deal on it.
And for the record I have never heard of the handbag maker that you referenced being worth that much money. My blue collar upbringing is showing through.

and if I could buy one for that, I could turn around and sell it for twice what I paid for it. A Birkin is not JUST a handbag. They actually have waiting lists of women who want to buy one. And just so you know, the crocodile birkin sells for $25K even if you could find one.
As my DH will tell you, I have champagne tastes on a beer budget.

My wife drug me on a shopping trip in Milan one time...the tiny 1500 Euro ($2250) Chanel "purse", hardly big enough to hold a checkbook, doesn't seem so expensive now...

LOL. I was in Neiman Marcus (or Needless Markup as some like to say). I was drooling over the Manolo Blahnik shoes, but this woman was waffling between a $1500 Chanel lucite evening bag and a $2700 Judith Leiber... her husband, obviously tired of shopping, just said "get them both". Now that is music to any woman's ears.
