hello
anyone out there who does not have a place on pleasure point should stop with the crazy talk , i purchased last year a place on the lake and yes my land is leased from pleasure point marina , we spent around $ 80,000 last year making it a place that we are proud of , we made the purchase because i have worked like most of the residents in the park for over 20 years 7 days a week and i just wanted a place that i could go a few times a year and spend time with my family and relax a little , i have never known of a sewer problem at the park until now , there are 2 sections of homes that have 4-5 small homes on one septic system which is not good , but for the rest of us liviing in the park we have never seen a problem , the pleasure point owner who leases the property from apco gets about $ 350,000 a year in lot fee,s and only pays $ 60,000 lease payment for the whole park a year to APCO which means the owner who charges us $ 345.00 each month for a little spot in some cases will not even fix a pipe , cut the grass , fix the streets , cut the tree's or basically anything to make the park better with the $ 290,000 dollars profit she earns from the lot leases , and by the way the 85 sheds she rents for $ 65.00 per month is also pure profit , this place is mismanaged and nothing else , the residents clean the yards cut the grass build docks invest thousands of dollars in something the can call home , we all pay about the same as most people on the lake for 1 or 2 acres directly from apco . please do not spread rumors of septic filling up the lake from plesure point because it is simply not true , we have a problem with the current park owner and nothing else , the park could be brought up to code and re done with little or no problems , the park needs to offer sites for week end campers that bring money into the community , the park needs to offer rental boats and maybe a better image which is easy to do with the proper help and orginization , the currentowner has ran the park into where it is now by pulling every single dollar out of the park ...

i will not let my $ 80,000 i just invested in the lake house just fade away , there are people who all own all of there homes outright , you make judgement on the renters there but there are no different than the person across the lake who ownes a $ 700,000 home on leased land or should i say the bank owns , almost every one in pleasure point owns there houses or trailers out right and they paid 10 times the true value for the camper/trailer/home because of the view and for nothing else , if there is a problem with the pleasure point area well as a community it can be fixed together ,by taking the funds from the escrow account within 2 years the park could have a 100% turn around , but this will enver happen as long as a person who has been running it for over 20 years remains the personn in charge . like all business that fail , change the management with new blood and see if the company does not grow , keep the same oold same old and watch any company fall by the waistside , its tiem for apco let some one else run the park and build a better future for the lake and the community , it can be done ....

i first logged on to this site today and i am shocked at the heartless statements of people who live in the house that the bank owns and they look down on people who has taken there whole life savings and purchased a over priced trailer on a buitifull lake and there only crime is they pay way to much and get nothing in return ,

the lake martin community should come together to support the pleasure point residents because they could be you if alabama power one needs your land , and apco uses a clause in a lease that states they do not have to renew the lease to you because of inverimental reason which cannot be prooven yet ...

again understand these residents are no illigal alians they are you parents , aunts , uncles , brother , sister , kids who just want to enjoy life as you do - they pay there rent just like you do - they pay there taxes just like you do - well hell they are you .

Welcome to the forum. I agree there are too many uninformed comments on the status of Pleasure Point as it relates to the residents (or should I say victims?). There are a few half cocked comments below, but I think a majority of us are on your side. I know many folks in Pleasure Point (like you) that are good folks and that knew nothing of any problems.....I also agree that there appears to be a serious mismanagement problem that took most residents by surprise. I wish you and your neighbors the best of luck in a positive resolution.

I agree, when I started coming to the park it was always looking good on Friday when most of the people started coming in for the week, back then there were not near as many full timers living in the park. James and Tommy and the crew of guys would always have the crass cut, weed eating done, any roads that need gravel and or grading would be done. Now if you ride through, common area are not cut, a lot of grass goes un cut. If branches have to be cut they are piled up near where they were cut and left there, same with a complete tree. The shared docks on the west side of the park next to where my place was were almost falling down before they were repaired. The marina store was open every day except a few holidays all year round, now they close after summer is over. The"Lady" is all about the money, she would not allow anything older than 5 or 6 years to be set up in the park, she bought a single wide that was being moved out set it up and sold it for a very nice profit after her son was done staying in it. She would buy new double wide homes set them up and make a very good profit and would not let anyone else do the same. If APCO would get her out of there and lease it to someone that was not all about the money it could be a very nice place again. Good luck to all of you that are going through this with her, hope this gets resolved, you get her out, get the lot rent lowered to a much more reasonable rate and don't get screwed out of tens of thousands of dollars..

Most of the readers on this forum are quite adept at reading and interpreting the many posts made here, and they generally have no problem with spelling, grammar and the quirks associated with technology.  So just keep posting and we'll keep reading.  If clarification is needed, you can be sure someone will speak up.

Yea, we have had a few grammar police through the years, but they give up rather quickly.  I post from my phone a lot lately and it definitely presents challenges to formatting.  Your is one of a few voices of reason and I am sure with level headed folks like you the issue can be negotiated to an acceptable conclusion.  I said in the very beginning that this may well be just a way to push 'the old lady' aside and find a better steward for the land.  The fact that they have given residents longer to vacate than the leaseholder speaks volumes to me.  It is also a fact that APCO does not like any negative publicity, and who can blame them.  They have a guaranteed rate of return on what is basically our money.  Who would want to screw that up?  Many here know that my former Father in Law retired from APCO pretty high up the food chain so I have I different perspective than most.  I have been an APCO defender on issues in the past, but if their plan is to really displace all those residents that is indefensible and I have stated so already.

I would also like to point out that the places that are currently sharing septic did nothing wrong.  At the time it was done it was perfectly legal and pretty much standard practice.  The permitting process for septic systems is really quite new in Tallapoosa County and the general lack of building and zoning laws is deplorable.  I am sure there are some deferred maintenance issues, but as stated, that is not an issue that is unique to PP.

Thank you. You addressed your unfortunate situation and aired your opinion with a lot of class. We had a place at Pleasure point about 20 years ago. We were lucky enough to find a place over on Sandy Creek almost 15 years ago and we love it but some of my fondest memories of the lake are ones from when we were at Pleasure Point. Our old trailer wasn't much to brag about but it was on the lake. For us, it was basically only used for sleeping. At sun up, someone would heat up the stove for biscuits, and that was about the last thing we would do inside until it was time for bed. Every last drop of every day at the lake was spent on the deck or pier. We would take the occasional boat ride and honestly, it was a once or twice a summer treat that we would venture over to the rock. We simply enjoyed the lake. That's the special thing about Pleasure Point. It's residents really are true lake people. Their places aren't for show. (Neither is ours now, but it is a little better than the tiny tin can we had back then...no offense) While I disagree with the extreme actions of APC, I do think that if there is a septic problem at the park, it should be fixed IMMEDIATELY. I was only in high school back when we had our place so I really don't remember much about all of that, but I do remember not being able to park in a certain spot on our lot because it was above the tank...but that was probably a parental mandate. I'm all for maintaining the water quality of the lake, but as for the houses on its waterfront, I love it the way it is. It's got the perfect mix. Luxurious/ ostentatious homes (and I'm not saying I wouldn't have one if I could), normal mid size houses, old cabins (which are dwindling at an alarming rate..I love the old Russell cabins...they truly are iconic of Lake Martin), and even the the tiny trailers with their lean-to additions. I would hate to see Pleasure Point go. Hopefully the current management will either step up and take care of the issues she's responsible for or at least release her rights as the operator/ authority of the property to a legitimate homeowners association. One more thing. I've seen it mentioned on here before that she was warned of the alleged violations some time ago and given ample time to assess them, AND knew that termination of her lease was a possibility if the problems weren't fixed. I've also seen that she (allegedly) stated that septic tanks installed by residents weren't her responsibility. If that's the case, and there was even the slightest possibility that these particular tanks/systems were the ones in violation, shouldn't she have notified them? I mean come on, if someone else's problem was endangering my business/ livelihood, I wouldn't point fingers...I would terminate their lease right then and there.
