The new owners (Dave and Jodie McGirt) are awesome. Dave is a great guy and gung-ho marine (non-current) . Dave and Jodie live close by and are both very active Kowaliga volunteer fire fighters.....Dave is always first on the scene when a call comes in. I'm sure he will also provide customer service second to none with the same "gung-ho, get it done right" attitude I've seen at the fire department.  Give them your support. In my opinion, Lake Martin Dock Company is now BETTER THAN IT'S EVER BEEN!!!

Sunrise Docks is the newest dock company on Lake Martin. We will begin operations next week. Jim Bain, a long time Lake Martin resident and business owner, has joined the team and will be working with us. We have an experienced group of people working with us. In addition, we have purchased equipment to enable us to build a quality product in any conditions we may encounter. Please visit our website (www.sunrisedocksllc.com) to learn more about us.

Just to be clear, is this a new company that replaces Lake Marting Dock Co. or what. Will Lake Marting Dock Co still be in business and honor warranties?

Sunrise Docks is a new company that is not affiliated with Lake Martin Docks.

IF my original post is correct--why sell one dock company just to start another one on the same lake-- do not know who " Bain " is but noticed McGill left him out.  Hmmmm!

Hi Rooster,

Yes, Larry and Sharon Bain (the founders and owners of Lake Martin Dock Company) did sell the business to me in June.  Both Larry and Sharon have stayed on as employees, and you will still see Larry building away like he has for the last 20 years on the lake.   In addition, all of the key employees of Lake Martin Dock have continued on, and we have added a few more to keep up with demand. Probably why you have not noticed a difference :)

As you may have noticed around the lake, we are investing into the existing business, equipment and growing the team to meet demand.  One item of note that might excite the DIY'rs out there, we do plan to launch a used/refurbished equipment unit in the near future.  There is a great deal of equipment that we remove during construction that has value to those who just need a motor, pulley, or other small item to get an older system back up and running until they can see us about their dream dock systems.

Thank you for the very kind words by many, and we look forward to continuing the leading dock company for quality and reliability on Lake Martin for another 20 years.

I'm confused.  Is it Lake Martin Dock Company or Sunrise Docks? Reading and re-reading this thread both companies seemto lay claim to the same folks with new equipment-.

Lifer,

Sorry for the confusion.

Jim Bain was previously an employee of Lake Martin Dock Company, and has recently decided to help start a new dock company with a local home builder.  We wish Jim and their team good luck in the new venture.

OK.  So McGill just misspoke in his post then? He said Jim Bain was going to make LMDC better than ever. It threw me off because he is usually spot on.  I have disagreed with him before but always held him in high regard. Just shows we all make mistakes,  next thing you know he may be landing at the wrong airport...lol.  Good luck to both you guys.

The format of this forum gets me confused as well... But McGill was correct - we are the new owners of Lake Martin Dock Company, and I hope we can earn his high praise.

I don't think McGill mentioned Bain, but Bhamcpa indicated Bain was a part of the new company = Sunrise.

I guess I need to read the whole thread again and take notes. It baffles me why anyone would buy a business though and not include a non compete clause which it what it now appears to me to be the case.  Either way I am a DIY guy so not likely to ever need either of their services.  As stated earlier,  best of luck to both.

As stated above, I never mentioned the previous owner or Jim Bain. Please read again (you probably already did though). I do strongly believe that Dave (the new owner) willl make Lake Martin Dock Company better than ever and it will be the best dock company on the lake for years to come.

Who honors warranties for work performed by Lake Martin Dock when Bain owned it?

Great question Gone Fishin.  As the certified dealer for all the products we sell, the customer is the registered warranty owner in most cases.  Meaning,  if you purchased a High-Tide lift, the warranty is in your name.  With that said, we will continue to honor the commitments to customers past and present.  As I mentioned above, the knowledge and experience that built the business has not gone anywhere, Larry Bain is still here having a blast building the best docks on Lake Martin.

Wow.  I thought it was just me. I don't know any of the folks involved with either company so had a hard time keeping the names straight,  but I have read posts again this morning,  and a couple of emails too(which will remain private) but it seems there are two Bains being mentioned Jim and Larry. Not knowing the relationship between them and either connection to LMDC is part of my problem I guess. It seems to me someone needs to make a new post explaining past/present relationships other than just proclaiming larry/Jim work for me.  The one thing I do understand is LMDC has new owners.  Congrats!

hehe..  guess clifnotes are in order:

Lake Martin Dock Company = Same people, same service, same great product, new person who signs the checks ( new owner )

Sunrise Docks - New dock company on the lake started by local home builder, and has a former sales rep of Lake Martin Dock Company as the sales person for new company.

The End :)

That a better version?

I'm sorry for the confusion. let me see if I can clarify this. Jim Bain and Larry Bain are brothers. Larry and Sharon Bain were the owners of Lake Martin Docks. Jim Bain was an employee at Lake Martin Docks, working primarily in sales. Recently,Larry and Sharon Bain sold Lake Martin Docks  to David McGirt. When it was sold, Jim Bain left Lake Martin Docks. This coincided with the time where I was starting Sunrise Docks. Knowing Jim's background and his experience in the dock business I approached him about coming to work with me at Sunrise Docks. He accepted the job and has been diligently working to get us up and ready to begin operations.  We are extrrremely fortunate to have Jim with us. We look forward to many years building docks and seawalls at Lake Martin.

I hope this clears up any confusion from the above posts

Ok, so which company is going to help Donald build the wall?

Apparently Jim will sell it to the Mexicans and if history teaches us anything,  neither will ever build it... Lol.

Thanks to both posters for the clarity.  As I stated I was not familiar with the names of the principles involved and got a little confused.  Thanks to these posts and a couple more emails I am now up to snuff on who is who and what is what. I don't think it was confusing me alone and it is important for folks to know and understand who they are dealing with. Congrats again to both and good luck.

The real question is - who is going to do the best work for the best price?

Those are some of the key questions.  I welcome new clients to talk to previous customers, and current customers that have jobs underway here at Lake Martin Dock Company.  As you know, there are plenty of companies that come and go, and promises by sales reps to get the deal are sometimes .. well..

We will not be the cheapest, but we will end up being the best price - as we will build the dock in the timeframe we set, we are fully insured, back all of the products we deliver, and will still be here 10-15 years from now when you are ready for updates or maintenance.

The biggest issue we continue to see: People don't like to hear the truth as it relates to when we can work them in the schedule.  So, they will forget about the other key factors in order to get a promise of delivery timing.  Lets face it, most people are not thinking about their new dock today and ordering it in time for Memorial Day..  They will wait until Spring, then get the great idea to get a new dock, and be shocked that all the dock companies were not waiting for them to come in :)

If someone plans ahead, they can evaluate all of the dock companies on the lake, and make the best choice for their budget, timeline, and design needs.

Sorry for the book, but it really comes down to proper planning on the part of the buyer so they can get the most for their money.

 David
