How much do you think it cost George Soros to have these Pentagon leaks appear 2 weeks before the election?

I'd really hate to think that someone was releasing classified military information for political gain.  Understand that these papers contain intelligence information that could put lives in danger and jepordize sources.   It's very serious.

I'm totally amazed that this government will allow one individual and his cohorts to do harm to this country's solders. I vote for political assassinations. The Islamic are very successful with their threats against cartoonist who portray Mohammed in cartoons. Ask Denmark. It's time for the appropriate agencies to protect this country.

Of course it is serious; but despite your aversion to considering it, "someone" did acquire and release this information, and the timing in relation to the upcoming election seems less than coincidental. In addition, it follows the game plan of the WH planners and their trigger man, in attempting to embarass a previous administration. War is hell, no matter who is responsible.......and saying there could be a clean ( or cleaner?) way to accomplish it is disengenuous.

I'd be really, really shocked to find out that anyone at the WH had anything to do with this.  In fact, this isn't the first leak and wasn't that traced to a disgruntled soldier?  I think it is likely someone else that who is unhappy with the situation in Iraq -- someone with access to the data and an axe to grind.
But, it raised an interesting question in my mind -- one that goes back to the question of "torture" -- what else haven't the American people been told?  Granted, this is not the kind of thing that is generally released to the public unless it gets leaked, but it raises a question in my mine where Cheney and his "interpreters" in the Justice Department took this country.
I don't think the majority of Americans would be happy to know, despite whatever reservations they may have about Muslims.  I think history will regard his decisions/actions to be a low point in American History.

And I'm not blaming GWB, I'm blaming CHENEY.  He's always been a behind the scenes operator.

"We deplore WikiLeaks for inducing individuals to break the law, leak classified documents and then cavalierly share that secret information with the world, including our enemies," said Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell. He said the military would not comment on the information contained in the records but stressed that the "reports are initial, raw observations by tactical units. They are essentially snapshots of events, both tragic and mundane, and do not tell the whole story."

Even so, the spilling of so many once-secret files into public view allows for a fine-grained examination of the war. The 391,832 files included in the release cover a period from the beginning of 2004 to the end of 2009, and are more than quadruple the number of records that WikiLeaks published on the war in Afghanistan.

WikiLeaks has not disclosed the source of the materials. But suspicion has centered on Pfc. Bradley Manning, 22, an Army intelligence analyst whom the military arrested this year, charging him with the downloading and transfer of classified material.

If we accept your purported history with governmental employment/procedure as fact, your response to this is either naive, or part of the company line (a required reponse that qualifies acceptance in the organization)  -not to say that you may not come to actually believe this as fact......but as an outside observer, I am consumed with disbelief.

Of course, you understand that the first thing the WH would do in this situation is deny any involvement. But then it comes to a morality judgement - is knowledge of potential misdeeds, and inaction, equivalent to the act itself?
We give life sentences to the guy that drove the car, just like the guy that robbed the bank.......

It is treason to give aid and comfort to the enemy.  The soldier (whomever) that breached his trust and peddled this information to Wikileaks is guilty of treason.  He is also guilty, as accomplice, for the demise of soldiers, sailors, airmen, agents, operatives, and sources… who will be attacked, wounded, kidnapped, and/or killed based on his information.

That said, the information is “raw”.  It’s similar to basing history on a movie by Oliver Stone, Michael Moore, or Al Gore.

We are dealing with a dispersed and irrational enemy.  This enemy has co-opted a “religion” which itself is nebulous.  The true owners of the religion are fearful of this enemy.  This irrational enemy has declared war on us… and our families… and their own kinsmen.  This enemy is not in the least concerned with the tenets of the Geneva Convention.  This enemy kills indiscriminately.

This enemy changes its name, changes its location hides behind families… wives and children.  This enemy steals and intimidates to fund itself.

This enemy uses our own moral beliefs against us.  This enemy DEPENDS on us responding rationally… and predictably… to their aberrant warfare.  This enemy EFFECTIVELY uses our press and media against us… and our press and media willfully participate.

“ …and defend it against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”  WHO is the enemy?

Sorry to say that those of you "conspiracy" advocats assume a lot more "organization" and cooperation that generally exists in the government.

So back to the question: do you think that a disgruntled employee of the US government made this information available with intent to hurt the US government/military, and did so in an independent fashion (that is, without regard to the governing Party)? Or did a third party, with a more focused agenda, direct the availability of the information?
Sounds like Tallulahound would vote for number 1, and dismiss number 2. Correct?

that's what I believe.  We don't know when the information was released to Wikileaks.  If anything, it embarasses the US, not a particular political party.  Most of the time when this kind of thing is done, it is done because an individual is upset or disguntled and they are trying to get back at the government for some perceived slight.

How do I know this?  From being trained by information security specialists and intelligence folks to be on the lookout for these situations.

Well that was easy.
And Oliver Stone just breathed a big sigh of relief.

I really don't think they are that organized but I could be wrong.  What is all the more likely is they can issue their official protest while rubbing their hands gleefully thinking of the potential political benefits.  In this case I think there is little to be gained by this because the approach of blaming the previous administration has worn thin and most people don't care about that aspect.

What many will deplore is the risk this kind of leak represents for our military personnel and allies in Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries in the Middle East.  Why would you take a chance supporting us if you think a year or two years from now it will show up on Wikileaks?  But I don't subscribe to the idea that it will foment more attacks on us from a motivational standpoint.  They are already highly motivated and are doing what they can.  It will make the job of our military personnel more dangerous because there will be less cooperation and help.

There is no doubt in my mind whoever released this information engaged in treason.  If it is someone in the military and they are discovered they should be tried and if convicted punished in accordance with the uniform code.  If they are a civilian they should be tried and if convicted punished under civilian laws.

the "wikileaks" leaker was probably someone wanting to move this forum in a "new" direction, perhaps someone from Lake Allatoona and funded by George Soros, released at this time, only to distract the off topic forum frequenters from other significant issues.

Do you think George Soros or people of his ilk give a rip about the safety of the miltary? The goal is power and control.  And wouldn't one point of the exercise be to make the job of miltiary personnel more dangerous, with less cooperation from allies?
There is no doubt that this represents treason. But money and power can make people do things they would never otherwise consider.
