I actually ordered the book "Around Stemley Bridge" a few months ago from BarnesandNoble.com. It has a ton of historical pictures. Very interesting for those of us looking for history of the place. I don't recall whether it indicated where the name Stemley came from, but I will look next time I am at the lake house. There is a lot of history in that area and the author did a good job of capturing it.

I've got an uncle that spent a lot of childhood time in the Stemly Bridge area. But back then, the river was still a river. He left before the dam was built. All the places he has told me about ar all under water now.
I do know the "old" bridge is down there where the 2 hazard markers are just north of Lincoln Harbor. As far as family history, I haven't heard any. I've also seen that book at a store somewhere but I haven't read it. It would be nice to know though.
Peace, <>< TC

Just got off the phone with my neighbor that does the fireworks here near the bridge. The show is on! Probably be about 20 minutes after Pell City gets done. I'll be helping unload the stuff later tonight. I'll let yall know tomorrow how long the show will last. New Years Eve went on for an hour or more.
Peace, <>< TC

Per book living around Stemely Bridge: A railroad bridge ws built across the Coosa River at Collins Ferry, and the surrounding community was named Stemley. Stemley was named after Emily Ware, sister-in-law of D.M. Rogers, sawmill owner and village founder. Sister Emily became "Sist Emly" which was shortened futher to "Stemly" or "Stemley"
The book is has some nice history. Lots of old pictures. Bought my copy at the Shack BBQ.
