Understand there was a drowning of a diver at Chimney Rock today. Last word indicated that a 17 year old dove instead of jumped. Anyone know more about this tragic, unnecessary event?

Was just on CH 8 news. They said that at 1:30 today (2 July) a 17 yr old boy jumped off the rock and never came up. Divers went down and found the body. Very sad.. The Marine Police were interviewed and said that there is no law against jumping from the rock. A foolish youngster (we all were) said that as long as people will watch him he will jump.

And the Legistlators worry about laws governing loud and fast boats, jumping off that d`am rock should have been outlawed a long, long time ago.

There were more than a hundred boats bobbing around while the boy's body was being recovered by divers and then removed by Marine Police Boat to the Ridge. Within 10 minutes of that, there were a stream of jumpers making their way up the side of the Rock to go it some more. Business as usual......

My son was there at the time of the accident and said that this young fellow went off the top and landed on his back..never surfaced. My question is as follows: we have had three deaths on this lake in the last month. How many more have to die before common sense will prevail. Restrictions will never be the answer as most people will do it anyway. Our marine police do the very best job they can, but they can't be everywhere. I commend them very highly for this thankless job they do, as all law enforcement personnel. God bless them all. Most of all, God bless those families for their loss which is devistating to everyone.

Fairly typical of the "As long as I'm having MY fun MY way, to h^ll with you" attitude that has become the norm around here.

If you told me that the gathered boaters had started singing that "Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye" song while the divers were searching, I would be only mildly surprised.
