I will make a prediction. When the rain does come APCO will use it to generated power, NOT to raise the lake. So when the tropical front moves thru and we get several inches of rain but the lake remains at the same level, some of you (Bob) will have plenty to whine and be hysterical about. Oh what fun that will be then......lol

The only exception I think would be if we are already below winter level they may be forced to raise to winter level before being allowed to generate with it.

The basis for this prediction. APCO is a BUSINESS, and that business is generating power for PROFIT. So far this year they have generated virtually nill with hydro, replacing it with COAL. Now for you tree huggers there is an issue you can take on...lol APCO has already announced that they may have to go to the PSC for a rate increase if relief doesn't come soon. You see APCO is a business, and that business is NOT our recreation, it is generating ELECTRICITY! They are guaranteed in their charter a 15% ROI. They will get it one way or the other. I prefer they get from keeping costs down through the use of cheap, clean hydro power.

what percentage of APCo's power is derived from Hydro-generation during an average month--say June. No BS, get the facts from those APCO kin folks.

LTL..........at the risk of bystanders not knowing who the idiot is here, I can't understand who you are picking a fuss with on this post.......until after I looked at the facts......and realized it must be a fence post. You are correct that APC has generated virtually nil from hydro this year......however they always generate virtually nil from hydro because hydro only represents 4% of the total installed capacity according to the latest 10k report APC sent to the SEC after 12/31/06. That is a small tail on a large dog that cannot wag the dog easily. In other words.....if APC is not making their allowed ROI they would have to drain all of their lakes in order to move their numbers. And that would only be an occasional action til the lakes filled up again. Somehow, I don't think any strategic generation decisions are based on a few inches of rain when that option only represents 4% of their capacity. If they use your preference to generate with hydro we may go back to the era of 30 to 40 foot drops every year.

Web for Alabama Power posted by MythBuster above shows the company generates 7.2% of their power with water, almost twice as much as 4%. But still much less than other generation options.
